In a world where college graduates struggle to overcome the competition in the job market, getting one's resume short-listed for an interview is a huge deal. However, getting an interview wouldn't put food on our plates. One needs to be well-prepared to ace every possible interview question to land the job. Ex-recruiter and career expert Sho Dewan, who goes by @workhap on TikTok, often shares HR secrets that might help job seekers prepare themselves for an interview. Recently, Dewan revealed a sure-shot way to ace a job interview in the first two minutes and it's a lifesaver.
The ex-recruiter started his video by saying that getting an interview is a "win" for sure. However, it is also important to understand how to successfully bag the job by navigating the interview processes. He made a surprising revelation that most interviewers decide whether a candidate is the right fit for a job role within the first two to three minutes. "All they're looking for is, '1. Do I like you?' and '2. Can you do the job?'" he explained. Turns out, there is an effective way to match the above two criteria and Dewan says that "it's all in the job description." The career expert then explained how one can harness a company's job description to frame their answers.
"First go to a job description and just copy and paste the responsibilities," Dewan pointed out. "Paste them into a Word doc and just look at the top five bullet points," he added. The ex-recruiter then recommends that candidates identify the keywords the companies used in their job descriptions. "Now, before the interview, write down a story where you can prove you have one of those keywords as an experience," he explained. So, one can understand what the company expects from the candidates by simply looking at the keywords in their job description and using them to their benefit. "You do that you can get the job," Dewan concluded.
The video garnered over 743k views and people could see why the first few minutes are important. "As a recruiter, the 2-3 minutes is so real. Sometimes within the first minute if someone comes with great energy I am already majority-sold," said @career.success.qu. "I did this in my cover letter. The best I think I could do in my interview is just expand on things even further," commented @thetypingdragon. "Yes. I read the entire website and they hired me the same day!" added @motherofperros.

On a similar note, another career expert revealed the best way to answer interview questions about one's failures. Career coach Cara (@cara_coaches) suggests a failproof response to the question, "Tell me about a time you failed." She explained, "The recruiter wants to hear a true failure, not a success veiled as a failure." Cara pointed out that recruiters want to know three things: if the candidates take responsibility for their failures, their ability to solve problems and their ability to learn and grow from mistakes. She asked her followers to keep these in mind while framing their answers to questions about their failures in previous jobs.
