Old lady hit his parked car, denied it and dared him to call the police. Weeks later, a cop said her reaction confirmed she did it

A resident (u/ell_wood) from Sydney, Australia, found themselves in a sticky wicket when a senior lady hit their parked car and blatantly lied about it. Even when the resident asked for her insurance details, she refused to share any. When nothing worked, the author settled the score by doing exactly what the reckless driver had asked: calling the cops. An officer confirmed that the woman’s refusal to share the details was the very evidence of her crime. The post, shared on August 17, 2026, has received over 7,000 upvotes on Reddit. 

The denial game

The author was in their parked car, waiting for their daughter's football match to start, when a 70+ lady parked her vehicle just beside them. "I waved my hands and beeped my horn, but nothing. She took a swipe across my passenger door," the author recalled. However, instead of admitting her mistake, she got out of the car and denied hitting it, even though the paint on both cars was clearly chipped. The older lady adamantly refused to share her insurance details and blamed the author for trying to frame her as a criminal. Furious, the author called the insurance company, who suggested they talk to the lady again to get her details. "I try one more time. She tells me, 'F*** off, you are harassing me. Call the f****** police,'" they recounted. 

The fallout gets real

Although the author preferred to stay away from the police, the next morning, while going to work, they approached a police officer. The officer confirmed that not revealing insurance details was a criminal matter and the old woman was now entrapped in it. "So, Mrs Angry Bitch...you could have just taken two seconds to be a decent human, but you chose not to. Now you have a criminal issue to deal with, not just a minor fender bender in a car park," the author concluded. 

The situation itself is not extraordinary given that a hit-and-run case occurs in the US every 43 seconds, per AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety. Furthermore, data from the same organization, cited by The Southern Maryland Chronicle, suggests hit-and-run cases have been on the rise, with 15% of all police-reported crashes involving a driver who fled the scene. Among the drivers who hit, 40% lacked a valid license, and more than half drove vehicles not registered in their name.

Meanwhile, Reddit readers lauded the author’s act and urged them to file a hit-and-run case against the old lady. For example, u/outofbounds284 commented, “I hit the record button the moment any incident happens…life lesson learnt early on in a hit-and-run incident with my 3-month-old in the car.” u/oldmantired reflected, “A hit-and-run is an arrestable offense.” u/JayneEyreLaidBare offered a piece of advice: “360-degree photos. And always call the cops.”
