'Hey Cameron, I wanted to chat you up, but I think DMs are a bit creepy — not that an email is much better,' Felter wrote to the WNBA celebrity

Ben Felter proposed to his longtime girlfriend, WNBA star Cameron Brink, in September 2024. The dreamy proposal took place in Paris, where Brink attended the Balenciaga show — unaware of what her then-boyfriend had planned for her. The couple, who've been together for almost six years, reportedly first met at Stanford University, when Felter was on the rowing team, and Brink was already a star athlete on the basketball team. Interestingly, although they had known each other from campus, Felter initially reached out to Brink via email. The basketball player later opened up about the unexpected first move in a TikTok video posted on February 28, sharing the heartfelt backstory with her fans.
Felter thought it would be very 'cringe' of him to DM Brink, so he decided that email would be a safer option. Without much thought, he sent her an email. "Hey Cameron, I wanted to chat you up, but I think DMs are a bit creepy — not that an email is much better. So, here's my number," Felter wrote in the email, with the subject line, "Attempting to Mingle." Brink was impressed, but she never thought that would be the smooth beginning of her fairytale love story. She posted a screenshot of the email on TikTok, writing, "This wasn't supposed to be a love song." Brink then added another picture of her and her fiancé sharing a kiss, adding, "But I guess it is now." You can see Brink's post here.
Felter and Brink began dating in March 2021. Although they mostly keep their relationship private, they don't ever shy away from wishing each other publicly on special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries. For instance, in 2024, Felter shared a loving post on their third anniversary. He took to his Instagram profile to share a beautiful picture of them and wrote, "Three years together, a day to celebrate the soul that makes me whole." Likewise, Brink announced her engagement through a post on October 1, 2024, making their fans' hearts flutter. Now that the engagement is done, the fans and well-wishers have been waiting for their wedding, which, according to PEOPLE, would most likely happen in 2026. In fact, the couple who've been inseparable since their college days will apparently marry at Memorial Church on Stanford's campus, as shared by the to-be-bride.
A survey by the Pew Research Center found that 42% of American adults feel dating sites and dating apps have made finding a partner or a spouse a little easier. Likewise, another survey found that one in ten adults who are either married, living with a partner, or in a committed relationship have met their spouse or partner through a dating site or app. This means that with the widespread use of social media and dating sites, people prefer approaching their romantic interests online. While Felter did not rely on any specific dating app, he also felt it was relatively easier to approach Brink via email than ask her out in person, even though they were classmates at Stanford.
Meanwhile, reacting to Brink's TikTok post, @regangrimm18 commented, "Ben has the confidence to do what I always think of." @kb_kristinblake wrote, "Attempting to mingle...he's actually so smart for this email because the odds of you seeing this over a DM seem in his favor." Similarly, @jamesgallagher387 confessed, "Attempting to mingle is the most precious subject line." @julienbakersgf wrote, "Oh, it is actually a perfect hello."
