'I love these kinds of fragile men.'
They say being a woman in a man's world is difficult, and no one but the ladies working in male-dominated jobs knows it better. Every day, you wake up to challenges, tackling people who try to lower your self-esteem by constantly questioning your worth. However, a woman working in the sales department of Young Subaru (@youngsubaruogden), a car dealership in Utah, knows exactly how to respond to people with sexist views. When a rude caller dismissed her, saying he would rather talk to a salesman instead of her, she blew his mind with her mind-boggling trick, and we're in love. The TikTok video has gone viral with over 2 million views online.
As usual, she answered the call with a warm greeting, but upon hearing a female speak from the other end, the man said, "Oh, sorry! I was supposed to be transferred to the sales department!" She politely replied, informing him that he was talking to the right person who could help him with anything he needed. "No, there's got to be a little bit of confusion. I was just talking to the receptionist, and she was going to transfer me to a salesman," the caller said, emphasizing that he needed a 'man' to respond to his queries. In fact, he kept saying he wanted to talk to someone who could actually sell him a car, as if a woman, someone appointed by the company, wasn't capable enough. "I have 5 years of experience selling cars here, and I am more than happy to help you," the lady informed. The caller didn't believe her, and so he decided to test her. But before she could answer his question, he dismissed her, saying, "It's completely ridiculous."
The rude caller then demanded she transfer his call to the "top salesman," and here's when the woman decided to stand her ground. She said she would immediately do as he'd insisted, only to transfer the call to herself again. The woman picked the receiver back up, and this time, instead of regular greetings, she said, "You are speaking to the top salesperson here at Young Subaru." The caller lost it and immediately cut the call, shouting abuse. Just like this woman, the Pew Research Center claims that 37% of females working in male-dominated places confessed they have been treated as incompetent because of their gender.
Reacting to the video, @joshuapratt09 commented, "I hate when people treat my female co-workers like a receptionist as if they are stuck in 1950." Similarly, @kaylaann529 said, "You made him so mad just by being a girl. The fact that you transferred him and it was still you was great; love this!" A woman who goes by @falicaattomgill on TikTok wrote, "I’m the sales manager at my store, and I have a desk on the showroom floor, and the customers think I’m the receptionist. I just go with it, and they end up buying a car without even seeing it coming! That’s called sleeper activated!"
@monicahope88 shared, "I work in insurance, and I get this all the time. I'm not a sales 'man,' and they need to speak to a male because I'm just a phone answering person/receptionist." @erinjackson2020 confessed, "I get these calls all the time, and it brings me great joy when they get frustrated and just ask to speak to a sales manager, and then I transfer them to my female sales manager, who's the most tenured in the store." Another user on the platform, @summer, said, "Being a woman in this industry is so rough. I literally got the same thing on Monday, sold him the car, and he’s still questioning my knowledge." @buckeyeman635, recalled, "I had a female sell me three vehicles. She was no bullsh*t and told you like it is; that's the way I like it. No trying to talk you into something you weren't comfortable buying!"
