Cafe gives paper and pen to the customers at the end of every meal for a special reason

A cafe in Paris has a unique tradition of handing their patrons a fountain pen and aged paper by the end of their meals and the internet is gushing over the idea.

A vacation to France is considered incomplete if people do not stroll into one of those quaint and aesthetic cafes in Paris and relish their delicacies. While many cafes felt proud for offering a delectable spread of pastries and other French desserts, Bistro des Lettres (@bistrodeslettres) does something extra special to make their patron's visit to their cafe memorable. Kitty, a woman visiting Paris–who goes by @pastryangel on X–tried out dining at the Bistro des Lettres. She was pleasantly surprised by what the cafe offered her next.

"For my last lunch in Paris, I went to a bistro where, at the end of your meal, they bring you a card and a fountain pen to write yourself a letter which they will send in a year's time," Kitty wrote in the caption of her post. She posted two pictures of a plate of Pain Perdu or French toast that was served with salted butter caramel and vanilla ice cream. The second picture featured a cabinet full of wooden boxes, where the cafe kept all the letters.

The cafe's beautiful tradition has continued to pay homage to classic French cuisines and prompted their patrons to immortalize their feelings when they visit the cafe, detailed Do It In Paris. Bistro des Lettres is helmed by its French-Chinese owner, Yinhua Qiu. Qiu has also founded the Larome group, which is the parent company managing about 10 restaurants in Asia. Also, Bistro des Lettres is loved by the patrons for its warm ambiance, which is a perfect fit for having a candlelight date as they stream a bunch of retro French music, including Celine Dion and Charles Aznavour. When the visitors finish their meals, the hosts of the cafe bring in a wooden box to their tables.

The box contains some fountain pens and aged paper. The patrons are encouraged to write down their current emotions and thoughts on the paper and slip it into an envelope. The patrons can jot down the address to which they would like the letter to be delivered and hand the contents over to the hosts. In a year's time, the cafe will take responsibility for mailing the letters to its destination, almost making it act like a time capsule that holds people's memories from their visit to Paris. The comment section of Kitty's post was full of people either enquiring about the cafe or simply admiring their unique initiative.

@BirrelleBee commented, "The way I zoomed in on that dessert! Also, what a beautiful idea. 99.9% of people will forget this and it will arrive and make them smile or reflect. It's just really cool." @GdMikaila1 shared, "Not me sending myself a postcard everywhere I travel to then wait for it like a surprise. This is your sign to do the things you love for yourself." @PumkinInstigata joked about what the woman could possibly write in the letter for herself, "Dear Kitty, have we burned off the calories yet? Should I be profound? Should I be funny? Oh god, the staff are glaring at us again. Why must they put us through this self-conscious anxiety-inducing ritual? I just wanted a decent coffee and cake." @Alisha12287 added, "This is incredible and such an amazing concept. That pastry looks absolutely amazing too."
