The mom was about to help the kid and explain things when Buzz Lightyear noticed that they were signing and decided to step in.
It can be a pretty exciting thing for a child to interact with characters they like while visiting Disneyland. However, having a disability might stop them from interacting with their favorite character freely. Similarly, a 'hard of hearing' kid named Jabez had his moment when Buzz Lightyear at Disneyland knew how to sign and use American Sign Language (ASL) to talk to him. The mom was about to sign and explain to Jabez before Buzz Lightyear cut in and took over. The mom named Estefani—who goes by @thatdeafamily on TikTok—shared the wholesome clip, which warmed people's hearts, on the internet.
"POV: Buzz Lightyear realizing that we can sign," the text overlay of the video read. Buzz Lightyear was trying to talk to a little boy when his mom and sister appeared on the screen. The mom signed, "He's a space explorer." Buzz Lightyear realized the boy could sign and signaled that he got this and started talking to the kid himself. "Can he sign?" he asked. "Yes," the mom responded. "This is a rocket!" the boy signed, pointing at his sweater. "Over there!" the "Toy Story" character signed and said that was him. "What's your name?" he asked. With his mom's help, the little boy shared that his name was Jabez. Buzz told the boy his name and said, "Nice to meet you!" and the boy signed the same in return.
They also told each other "I love you," leaving everyone in awe. Buzz Lightyear gave Jabez a big hug and then turned to his sister and wondered if she could sign as well. He asked her name and she told him her name was Everlyn. "Nice to meet you. You are beautiful," the space explorer expressed. "Want a picture? Of both of us?" Buzz asked the boy who was super excited for the same. The girl joined them too and Buzz gave her a hug and a kiss on the forehead as well. The kids stood on either side of Buzz Lightyear with big smiles on their faces. The video received nearly 36 million views and over 7 million likes. People in the comments appreciated the wholesome moment.
@melinnia96 wrote, "When Buzz saw the mum signing, it really felt like he said, 'I have waited for this moment my entire life! Step aside mum, I got this!'" @same.asiteverwas commented, "Imagine, you get a job to make kids happy. You train and learn ASL in hopes that one day THIS EXACT scenario will happen. He was stoked you can clearly tell." @lxey_xcx remarked, "I'm sobbing. The little boy looked happy when Buzz started doing sign language. He finally met someone who can understand him."
@tori.leigh1616 shared, "I love that this is like your own special moment. Characters can’t talk out loud, but your family has an exclusive experience with being able to sign with him. How incredible." @cynical_society expressed, "I LOSE it with the prices for Disneyland... then I remember there are these magical people who put their hearts and souls into bringing smiles to all these beautiful kids and I think, eh it's ok." @brittanysnyder24 pointed out, "This is one of the reasons I would love to work at Disney. A lot of the characters know sign and I’m wondering what they are taught."
