Burger King marks 70 years with a heartfelt tribute to elderly couples, celebrating enduring love and lifelong romances.
Burger King celebrated its 70th birthday with a heartwarming campaign, comparing its perseverance to the enduring love of elderly couples. The campaign highlights how older couples remain deeply in love, much like Burger King’s enduring business, per afaqs!. It also challenges taboos about desire among seniors.
The theme "70 years later, the fire's still burning" pays tribute to Burger King's unique flame-grilling method since 1954. The campaign features photos of older couples enjoying time together in Burger King parking lots, symbolizing enduring love. Currently launched in Brazil, it will soon go global.
This unique campaign was created by Buenos Aires-based Trans Company and Room 23. Burger King collaborated with fashion photographer Guy Aroch to capture shots of elderly couples. They also released a 30-second YouTube video titled "Chama Acesa" ("Lit Fire"), featuring an elderly couple enjoying burgers and sharing that their bond is maintained by the "fire."
The same "fire" that fuels their love also symbolizes Burger King's flame-grilled Whoppers, a long-time favorite. The video concludes with a special offer for two Whoppers, ingeniously capturing interest while celebrating the 70th anniversary. Sebastian Wilhelm, the creative director, said, "We wanted to create something meaningful and relevant for consumers. The idea of highlighting Burger King's flame-grilled burgers, combined with the brand's cheeky tone and the unconventional portrayal of desire among older individuals, resonated with us."
Co-creative director Maxi Anselmo emphasized the importance of recognizing that older individuals still possess vitality and desire. The campaign aims to challenge societal preconceptions and encourage open-mindedness about older couples. It tastefully blends social commentary with a fresh marketing approach.

It's wonderful to see old couples enjoying life. German couple Dietmar and Nellia Ehrentraut (@nelliaswing) are a famed dancing couple who specialize in the boogie-woogie style. They have showcased to the world that there is no age limit when it comes to doing things that you are passionate about. The couple have been dancing for more than four decades. They gained popularity in 2017 when both of them began to dance to the song "Down the Road Apiece" by Johan Blohm and The Refreshments at Landshut, Bavaria.
