When planning a wedding, bridesmaids are not expected to pay for anything other than their dresses, shoes, and makeup. Lissa (@lizzkelly7), however, was the bridesmaid of one stingy bride. On May 13, 2026, she took to X to share the story of how her "friend" claimed her destination wedding was "under budget" after refusing to pay for several things. Instead of letting it go, Lissa did the only thing she could to remind the bride of unpaid dues. She arrived at her friend’s wedding reception holding a Tiffany box as a gift, but the surprise inside left the bride red-faced. Her post went viral with over 1 million views on her page.

The real 'bridezilla'

Lissa had paid a total of $1,300 for her friend's destination wedding. First, she paid $800 for an Airbnb for a bachelorette party, then $300 for her bridesmaid dress, and an additional $200 for hair and makeup. It seemed the bride had already told her bridesmaids that she would reimburse them for everything. However, Lissa had to take money out of her pockets because the bride did not hold up her end of the bargain. In fact, her friend went so far as to brag at the reception that the wedding was "under budget." Lissa did not say anything at the reception but decided to act instead.

The wedding gift

Frustrated, Lissa decided to expose her entitled friend at her wedding reception. "I gave her a beautiful, heavy Tiffany box. Inside was no jewelry, just a printed, itemized invoice for $1,300 with a 'paid' stamp across it," she recalled. Moreover, Lissa also placed a note inside saying, "Since the wedding was under budget, I figured you’d love to know your debt to me is officially settled — consider this my gift. Congrats!"

Bridesmaids & wedding costs

Wedding traditions have changed over the years, and One Fine Day conducted an Instagram poll to see what modern-day brides and bridesmaids think. When it came to paying for the bridesmaids' dresses, 61% agreed that the bride should cover the bill. Only 113 people agreed to pay under $100 for a bridesmaid dress, and 329 would pay around $200 to $300. On the other hand, 63% of bridesmaids agreed that they should pay for the bachelorette party. As for gifts, 56% of the participants said the bridesmaids should not buy a wedding gift for the couple. Based on these numbers, Lissa's frustration with her friend seemed reasonable.

Readers couldn't stop laughing

Meanwhile, several people in the comments found the story hilarious and thought the bride deserved the gift. For instance, @gettelynne said, "I personally think its ignorant for friends to ask people to spend that much on their wedding. If you want an expensive wedding, you pay for it. Not your friends. That sh*t ends with the dress and shoes." Similarly, @chickuu_ commented, "That Tiffany box reveal would’ve had me leaving the reception in silence too."
