Father of bride delivers epic 'Star Wars' wedding speech: 'Protect my daughter from the dark side'

"Star Wars" is probably one of the most famous and well-recognized media franchises in the world. With 11 films and many shows still in development, "Star Wars" is an ever-expanding universe with countless fans across the globe. Whether it is "Star Wars" themed birthday parties or dressing up as the famous characters from this franchise on Halloween, the dedicated fans of this franchise never fail to show their love and admiration for the brainchild of George Lucas.

People might have also witnessed "Star Wars" themed weddings but someone delivering an epic speech full of puns and references from the film at the ceremony is almost unheard of. However, the Instagram page of Paper Cranes Weddings (@papercranes_weddings) recently shared a wholesome moment from the wedding of Alicia and Andrew, where Alicia's father stole the spotlight with his memorable speech. The caption of the video read: "Dad joke award 2023 goes to Alicia’s dad. Andrew said when he met him at the house, Alicia's dad showed him his full-on 'Star Wars' collection. Should we also show you when he brought up his Cinderella's shoes and the magic carpet for the speech?"

Before the speech, Alicia's dad enthusiastically got up from his seat. "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, Alicia was my only hope," he began, before picking up a lightsaber he had previously stashed under the table. "Andrew, protect my daughter from the dark side and don't let anyone steal your plans," he added. The bride's father then went on to wear the infamous Darth Vader mask, and handed Andrew the lightsaber while saying "I am your father-in-law," putting a hilarious new spin on Vader's iconic dialogue.

"I join you in holy matrimony to rule the galaxy," he concluded. It was clear that Alicia's father belongs to the generation who grew up admiring "Star Wars" and he still harbors a lot of love for the franchise. "He brought happiness, and fun to his new empire," @d_cos_park wrote. @jeep_freak_28 commented: "He was planning this her whole life. And I see nothing wrong with it." @eeejaytee51 added: "Guys if your girlfriend's dad is this cool, marry her now. She usually gets the dad's personality. It worked for me."

Meanwhile, one couple who are as passionate about the franchise as Alicia's dad threw a memorable "Star War" themed wedding. According to Daily Mail, newlyweds Jennifer and Joshua had their grand ceremony in Los Angeles. Jennifer was the one who insisted on having a "Star Wars" themed wedding because she had so much love and appreciation for the classic sci-fi blockbuster. "From the moment we started planning, my now-husband and I decided that we wanted our wedding to be intimate, fun and a reflection of who we are as a couple," she told GreenWeddingShoes.com.

"In terms of the details and decor, we tried to create an atmosphere that was whimsical, romantic and modern. Since I'm a lifelong 'Star Wars' fan, I knew I had to incorporate my fandom into some of the wedding details," she added. Everything in her wedding was custom-made for paying tribute to George Lucas' franchise which is adored by millions of fans worldwide. The bride also had a belt on her wedding dress which was inspired by the Stormtrooper characters. 

The flower girls at the wedding wore belts inspired by Princess Leia and had their hair done just like the beloved character. Jennifer's dad joined in the fun as well, dressed up as Darth Vader, and took to the dance floor with his daughter in the complete attire of the Sith Lord. When the guests arrived at the venue, they were greeted by two Stormtroopers. "The cherry on top for both of us was getting Stormtroopers from the 501st Legion (a cosplay group) to be a part of the wedding. It was an absolute dream come true!" Jennifer informed the outlet. The wedding photographer Cacá Santoro took photos of the bride and groom on the streets of downtown L.A. and they are a fan's absolute dream.
