A blind bride who lost her eyesight at age 17 is celebrating her special day with loved ones in a unique way. Lucy Edwards, a British influencer and activist living in Birmingham, England, lost her eyesight in her late teens due to a rare genetic disorder called incontinentia pigmenti. She refused to let her disability stop her from living her life to the fullest. The now 27-year-old shares glimpses of her life through her TikTok account @lucyedwards

Recently, she celebrated a special milestone in her life: her wedding! She came up with a creative way to ensure all of their wedding guests would remember her special day. She had her soon-to-be-husband and all of the guests at the ceremony wear blindfolds as she walked down the aisle. In a video she posted on TikTok with over 6.6 million views, she wrote in overlay text, "I'm blind and I blindfolded my sighted husband and guests when I walked down the aisle."

In the video, she arrives at the venue with the help of her dad and the bridal party. Viewers can see guests in blindfolds as she walks down the aisle. There is even a sweet moment with her adorable sighted dog, who was wearing a white tulle along with some flowers. Her groom also wore a blindfold and kept it longer than the guests so he could get a feel of his beautiful wife's stunning gown with all its details. She wanted him to feel the dress just the way she had, causing him to get emotional as he embraced his new wife.

"This was such an important experience for us both even though Ollie isn't blind, but we thought it was really important for him and all of my guests to experience what it's like for me in the most important moment of our life so far," Edwards wrote in the caption of her video. "It was such an emotional moment and one that I will remember for the rest of my life. I am so lucky that I have a husband that accepts me for exactly who I am, my disability and everything."

Edwards admitted to Insider that the entrance was an incredibly emotional experience for her husband and everyone at the wedding, revealing that this was a moment they would never forget in their lives. "I wanted to show that you don't need eyesight to have vision. You don't need eyesight to have a lovely time, to experience the milestones in our lives. You know, I'm not going to have eyesight when I give birth to my children, but that's OK and I've come to terms with that," she said.

She doesn't want to invalidate the trauma that came with losing her eyesight as a teenager, but she truly sees her life as a beautiful gift. "I wanted to show people that they can do something with their wedding that isn't conventional but is truly them, and you shouldn't comply to people's norms, that you shouldn't just do something because everyone else is doing it. You need to just think about what you want to do," she added.

One internet user, @trishj2207, perfectly summed up the reaction to Edwards' heartwarming video. "I don't think I've ever cried over wedding photos and videos so much in my life and I'm a complete stranger on the internet. I can't imagine how your wedding guests felt actually witnessing this. You know how every so often you see a bride who was literally born for her bridal moment - that's you. Absolutely beyond stunning," they shared.
