Bride stuns the internet by wearing her mother's 30-year-old wedding dress

Every bride wants their wedding gown to look stunning and memorable on their big day. But they get to mostly wear it once and then pack it up. But fashion blogger Rachel Cohen, (@theraylist), who is about to take her wedding vows in 2024, wasn't willing to let her mom's wedding gown rot in a package forever. Cohen shared a heartfelt video on her TikTok page which reached almost 500,000 viewers after she unboxed her mom's wedding dress from 1994.

"My mom’s wedding dress has been packed up since ‘94. Today we finally opened it. I have been dreaming of this day since I was a little girl," the overlay text on her viral video read. We can see the mother and daughter unpacking the stunning white vintage gown as Cohen further wrote how her mom was the "most beautiful bride." "A little bit of me always wanted to just get engaged already so I could finally try the dress. I am not a girly girl by any means and never thought I would wear the dress, but when I put it on and it fit perfectly, I knew I had to wear it somehow, somewhere," she was quoted as saying by PEOPLE.

 As her mom fastened the back of the gown on her daughter, the netizens couldn't help but get emotional over how well it fits her and it barely required any fittings to be done. "I was not expecting this experience to be as emotional as it was. The fact that I am all grown up and getting married is just insane," Cohen gushed. "When I had the dress on, I walked in to show my dad and he told me ‘You look amazing, but not as beautiful as your mom did on our wedding day.' I died a little inside and melted. I love their love and I know that by wearing this dress I will carry a little bit of my parent’s love, and of course my mom, with me at all times while wearing it."

As Lana Del Rey's track played in the backdrop of her video, Cohen filmed herself while posing in front of the mirror and gave her audience a better look at the gorgeous dress. So far, she is not certain if she will be wearing it for her own wedding day or not and has revealed that this design is a work in progress. "I am wearing the dress, but repurposing it. I haven’t decided exactly what I will do as I have to see what is possible. I will either wear it to my welcome party or for the reception. I absolutely love my mom’s gown, but I wouldn’t describe it as me so I am going to make it more me," she told the outlet.

This wedding gown also serves as a tribute to her late grandmother in a way. "My Grammy planned my parent’s entire wedding and obviously helped with the dress. She is no longer here with us, but I always hoped that she would be here for my wedding. This small decision doesn’t make up for it, but it sure adds something special," Cohen added. She also admitted that when was editing the video she definitely got emotional over the footage.

"I was hysterical after watching it fully edited with the music- it's just all so crazy. Life is crazy!" said Cohen. A fellow TikTok user @angelakhrichtchat urged Cohen to show a throwback image of her mom and wrote: "You need to show pics of your mother on her wedding day." She obliged and posted a follow-up video sharing her mother's picture from her wedding day in 1994. @sicilianchick7 gushed: "It fits like a glove and doesn’t look like it needs to be fixed at all! Please tell me you’re wearing it." @woollml wrote: "Your mom has exquisite taste because her dress is timeless!" @auburnfan1981 added: "This is one of the most timeless wedding dresses I’ve ever seen. I hope you wear her dress. You look fantastic in it."
