The real reason left the friends shell-shocked, but when they expressed it to the bride, she responded dismissively.
Weddings have a funny way of revealing how strong friendships are. A woman (u/sunnypotato0398), along with two other friends, was excited for their fourth friend’s wedding until they realized that she was deliberately using their friendship to subsidize her high-end tastes. The bride rejected their $300 Airbnb offer and pressured them to buy an $800 suite. Seeing the steep price, the friends gritted their teeth and asked the bride to hire a lower-priced suite. But the bride remained hell-bent on her wish, leaving her friends to attend the wedding with a chip on their shoulder. The woman’s October 21, 2026, vent on the bride has tallied 1,700 upvotes.
The woman described that they are a group of four good college friends, and one of them is about to get married next year. All of them would be her three out of five bridesmaids and would be flying cross-country for the wedding. The three friends suggested that they could stay in an Airbnb for $300 a night. But the bride insisted that they stay in a high-end luxury resort, 10 minutes away, at $800 each for three nights, "which, by the way, doubles as her/our getting ready space on the wedding day." Although the bride won’t be staying there, she pressed her friends to accept this option. “She said it was really important to her that we stay at the resort,” the woman described.

Her three friends gave her the option to upgrade their stay to a suite in the same resort available at $400, but the bride seemed adamant about booking the $800 suite. Even when they expressed their logic, she seemed too stubborn to follow her own argument. “All three of us feel it’s unfair and lame, but we don’t want to cause a ton of drama,” said the bride’s friend. She then realized that the bride had already crossed her dad’s budget and needed them to finance her wedding wishes. “The whole thing is frustrating,” she added.

Pressurizing friends or members of the bridal party into paying more often strains relationships and harbours resentment. Yet, nearly 56% of bridal party members have felt pressure to spend more than they could afford, per a survey by LendingTree. Just like in this case, nearly 42% of the members reported that the pressure came primarily from the bride. Nearly 40% of the bridal party members regret spending money on the wedding, and about one in 10 are no longer friends with the bride.

The internet reflected how the unwritten rules of being a modern bridesmaid are getting dangerously expensive. u/Massive_dig3963 said, “You know saying no is a valid and adult response, right?” u/readygo6828 remarked, “That makes no sense. You could stay at the Airbnb, and she could take the suite for one night and use it for all of you to get ready. It is not about drama; it is about being dishonest to her closest friends.”
