What made it even more touching is that they never got the chance to rehearse, as living in different states gave them no time for practice.
A father–daughter dance is going viral not because of the choreography, but because it recreated a moment captured in their living room nearly three decades ago. As "Beauty and the Beast" played, bride Brittany Bertoul and her dad, Giorgio, twirled in sync as captured by a home video from when she was just 3 years old. Bertoul discovered the tape about a decade ago, and the idea of reliving that memory immediately struck her. "That was the one and only thing I always knew I wanted to do," she told Inside Edition. At the time, she wasn’t even dating anyone, but she tucked away the plan until her wedding day finally came.
For Giorgio, the moment was a surprise. He said, "Honestly, I didn’t even know that video existed. She showed it to me like a few months before her wedding, and I said, 'Man, that’s amazing.'" What made it even more touching is that they never got the chance to rehearse, as living in different states gave them no time for practice. Giorgio joked, "It was not rehearsed. No. I’m like, 'All right, well, remember some of those moves.’ And so, we started dancing."
As the music started and the two of them spun across the floor, Bertoul melted into her father’s hands just as she had nearly three decades earlier. Guests watched as the past and present merged, a tiny girl twirling on screen and a grown woman dancing in her wedding gown in perfect harmony. The heartwarming moment perfectly showed how one memory can carry forward and become part of a new chapter. Researchers have found that revisiting memories in this way can strengthen family connections.
A 2025 study published by Personality and Social Psychology found that when parents and children reflect on shared memories, it increases their sense of closeness and encourages the passing on of traditions and values. In that research, participants who felt nostalgic about past family moments also reported higher levels of relationship closeness with their children, and this sense of closeness led them to engage more in tradition-sharing behaviors. For example, returning to childhood activities, remembering shared experiences, or recreating meaningful rituals. The mechanism was consistent across experimental, longitudinal, and cross-sectional work.
The video of the side-by-side dances has spread online, with people around the world struck by its simple tenderness. @aliceballard6988 wrote, "I wish every little girl had such a loving dad. He's a good example." @cryptghost2203 shared, "And I thought the song Butterfly Kisses (at least I think that’s the name of the song) was a great father-daughter wedding dance song." @bellnorton4453 commented, "This is amazingly beautiful! This is the sweetest and most touching thing I have seen in a while. Never forget the love of your parents. No matter how old you get, they are still your parents."
Giorgio said afterward, "It just touches people in a lot of different ways. And I think that’s what makes it special." For Bertoul, it was a promise she made to her younger self the moment she found that tape. For Giorgio, holding his daughter’s hand again reminded him how quickly time moves, but also how some things — like the way she looks up at him — never really change.
