Bride took bridesmaid's phone by mistake at her bachelorette party. She stopped cold when she read a text on it — from her future husband

Brides are often ready to deal with any surprises that come their way before the wedding. But one bride broke down crying in a bar after she accidentally took her bridesmaid's phone. Erin Gibney (@eringibney), a musician, took to Instagram on August 10, 2026, to share some 'tea' she stumbled upon in the girls' bathroom. Gibney could tell the group of women were celebrating a bachelorette party, but the bride was standing there, crying hysterically. She asked if she was okay. Never in a million years did Gibney expect what came out of the bride's mouth. The video has since received over 700,000 views on her Instagram.

A secret affair exposed

Erin Gibney admitted that she was being nosy when she checked on the crying bride. But she did not expect the bride to say, "I just found out that one of my bridesmaids has been hooking up with my future husband." Curious, Gibney then asked how she was so sure. Apparently, the bride and her bridesmaid had the same phone cases. After dinner, the bride accidentally took her friend's phone and left for the bar. When she got there, her bridesmaid's phone buzzed with a message notification. Still thinking it was her phone, she opened it, and it was a text from her future husband. She felt the blood drain out of her face when she read the text he sent to her bridesmaid, "I miss you so much. I wish I was with you."

The final plot twist

The bride confronted her bridesmaid, who broke down under pressure and confessed to everything. But that was not the craziest part. She asked Gibney, You want to know the most f*cked up part?" and dropped a bomb. "They're literally second cousins." Gibney was dumbstruck at the revelation. She could not say anything for a couple of minutes. As she looked at the bride's friends, she could immediately tell that they had known all along. "They had the most guilty looks on their faces," she added. Gibney hoped the bride canceled the wedding and left all her friends who hid this horrible secret from her.

Wedding chaos before 'I do'

As shocking as it sounds, people tend to cheat on their partners with people they're close with, rather than just a stranger. In fact, a PubMed study by Lindsay T Labrecque found that 53.5% of the respondents had an intimate relationship with a close personal friend. Similarly, 29.4% said it happened with a neighbor, coworker, or a long-term acquaintance. Surprisingly, the bride's future husband and bridesmaid were closer than that. They were practically family.

Meanwhile, a Bonusfinder.com survey revealed that people tend to go a little wild at bachelor/bachelorette parties. In fact, the report found 70% of committed people have cheated on their partners at such parties. While 33.1% received a lap dance, 21.3% admitted going a little farther, such as kissing someone else, and 11.2% confessed that they had slept with someone else.

Dodged a bullet

People in the comment section were just as shocked as Gibney at the plot twist. For example, @bahanna0w0 wrote, "No, not the cousins cuddler.
