Siblings can be the best of friends one can have as they provide unwavering support through their comforting presence. However, this isn't always the case, and a woman is facing a similar situation due to some bittersweet experiences with her stepsister. The 24-year-old, who goes by u/Odd_Impression_9303 on Reddit, opened up about how she is considering not inviting her half-sibling of the same age to her wedding, leading to a full-blown feud within the family. In a widely circulating post, the bride shared her dilemma about whether she should extend the courtesy to what she described as her “jealous” stepsister.

It all began when the sisters stopped getting along in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns. The rough times started affecting their relationship, leading to a point where there was no turning back. “We have had a rocky relationship since 2020, mainly due to her jealousy issues towards me,” said the soon-to-be-married woman. When the bride started dating her now-fiancé, who is 24, she had difficulty adjusting to her family. “I didn’t have a great relationship with my family—it bordered on the cusp of no contact because they enabled my stepsister’s entitlement and other reasons,” she added.

In 2022, things turned upside down when the woman, along with her boyfriend, took the initiative to mend ties with her family. According to the bride, the conflict stemmed from her stepsister’s liking for her then-boyfriend, who is now her fiancé. “My stepsister had a crush on my now-fiancé when he was 12 and she was 15. Her crush never went anywhere. She told all of our family members that my fiancé was only with me to get to her and that he wasn’t in love with me,” the post explained. Additionally, the woman resented her stepsister for trying to get close to her ex-boyfriend as well.

“She (the stepsister) also did this in 2020 with my ex and tried to get with him after our breakup. My family never took my side on anything and continued to blame me for her actions,” the woman claimed, adding that the only advice she received from her family at the time was to not engage with her. The stepsister was upset and threw a tantrum at the woman because her fiancé had kept her surprise birthday party a secret. “I got the silent treatment from my mom and stepdad because she was ‘humiliated and heartbroken’ that she wasn’t there.” “Cut to the present: my fiancé and I want a small and intimate wedding with only our closest family and friends (50 people max). I recently spoke with my mom and informed her that I will not be inviting my stepsister to the wedding because I don’t want to deal with the stress of her making my day about her,” the bride added.

The bride's mom was of the opinion that it wouldn’t be fair if the other stepsisters attended and that “drama” would follow. The bride went on to claim that she wasn’t inviting her actual sister, with whom she shared a blood relationship. “We don’t have a close relationship. We don't talk or see each other maybe once a year. I want to be surrounded by people that love me, and my fiancé, and respect our relationship,” she concluded, inviting reactions from the online community. “It’s your day! Invite only the ones that will make it memorable, don’t feel obligated to invite toxic people who will spoil it,” u/Dave1957a wrote. “Tell your mom if she keeps telling you to invite your stepsister then she will end up not being invited as well,” u/lynnebrad70 agreed.
