Bride blocked her best friend after accusing her mom of causing a scene. Then she watched the engagement video — and came back to apologize

By the time the bride realized the truth, it was too late to save their friendship

On September 2, 2026, a woman, 25 (u/velveteclipse_10), recounted how a jealous relative started a tussle between her and her best friend, Aria. Well, it all started at Aria's engagement, which the author attended with her mom. The event went well, and the author was truly happy for Aria. However, things changed when the to-be-bride blocked her after falsely accusing her mom of creating a scene at the engagement party. The author was shocked, but she knew her mom well enough to know she would never behave inappropriately on such a special day. Heartbroken, she kept her distance from her best friend, only for Aria to beg for another chance at their friendship after watching the engagement video.

Invited to both events

The author knew Aria and two other friends, Haley and Daphne, from high school. Although the four immediately formed a close group, Haley disliked Aria because she believed her community was pretentious. In December 2025, two years after their graduation, Aria video-called the other three girls to inform them about her upcoming engagement. Despite the ups and downs in their friendship, the girls were genuinely happy for their friend and decided to attend her special day. "In her community, they arrange two engagement events: one from the bride's side and the other from the groom’s side. Aria invited us to both events," the author recounted.

The engagement from the bride's side went well, but tension arose during the groom’s side event. This time, only Daphne and the author attended with their respective families. Notably, the author had taken her mom and her paternal uncle to the engagement party. However, unlike the bride's side event, the venue wasn't properly organized. "There was no proper partition like the bride’s side event — just two sides with a ramp in between. Since there was no partition, my mother and my uncle sat at the same table," the author explained.

The shocking accusation

The following day, the author received a call from Daphne, who pressed her to avoid texting or calling Aria. As it turns out, her in-laws had made a big deal out of a spacing issue. In fact, someone from the groom’s family had accused the author's mom of blocking space on the men’s side and not budging despite six requests. The author's mom felt insulted. Another friend, Zenith, who was seated nearby, also confirmed the account, leaving her even more disappointed and angry at Aria.

Two weeks later, the author confronted Aria, who immediately apologized for blocking her after the engagement. She said she knew that the author's mother was innocent and apologized for the accusation. However, Aria said she had to distance herself from her friend because of her in-laws. "I forgave her, but the whole scenario was engraved in my heart. I added Aria back and unblocked her but kept my distance and stayed reserved," the author said.

The revelation

Fast forward to April 2026, the author was resting at home when Aria arrived with her mother with bouquets, gifts, and cake to apologize. She said that the video recording of the engagement clearly showed that the author's mother was innocent. "She also confronted her family and found out that the rumor was spread by a relative of her fiancée because he was jealous, apparently," the author added. Moreover, she added in her post that now she is contemplating attending Aria's wedding.

Love comes at a cost

A study (Benjamin B. Haggerty and others) on 231 newlywed couples found that both husbands and wives increasingly included their spouse's family and friends in their networks. This sometimes comes at the cost of losing their close premarital friendships, as happened with Aria. While she focused on building a relationship with her future in-laws, she almost lost her friendship with the author. In fact, after she apologized, while the author forgave her, both Haley and Daphne lost respect for her. Similarly, another study by Robin Dunbar of Oxford University, cited by the BBC, concluded that a person loses an average of two friends when a lover dominates their life. This is probably what happened with Aria.

Meanwhile, reacting to the Reddit post, u/Meat_Bingo commented, “The other family members obviously have some issues (you said jealousy). I would frame it that it’s best you don’t attend so as not to cause any family tension that might distract from the day.” u/Boring-Experience-42 suggested that she must decline the wedding invitation with a message, “Aria… I love you and wish you all the best on your special day. With all that has happened, I have decided to celebrate you from afar on this day. I want to ensure your day is all about you and your soon-to-be husband.”
