Boyfriend asked for 'strict loyalty' after breaking up, and she agreed. 2 weeks later, it finally hit her — he's the one who cheated

They say love is blind, but young love can be blind as well as foolish. Well, Carisa Ong (@carisaong), a woman from Melbourne, experienced it while dating her first-ever boyfriend. On July 20, 2026, she took to TikTok to share the story of how she dated a toxic boy when she was just 14 years old and begged him for a second chance even after knowing he cheated on her. Ong was so much in love with him that she promised to remain loyal to him even after he dumped her. Thankfully, the love spell he had on her finally dropped two weeks after their breakup, and she saw him for who he truly was. Ong's video has received 43,000 views on her page.

Caught in the chats

Ong revealed that this was her first relationship. They began seeing each other in high school, when she was only 14, and were together for four years. Ong admitted she was "young" and "impressionable" like most girls at 14. But the drama in her relationship began with a Sunday buffet. After their date, her ex-boyfriend ghosted her without a reason. Worried, Ong called his mother, who told him that her boyfriend came home quite late with her cousin.

Confused, she went to his house and saw him asleep. Ong tried to confront him about ghosting her, but he went back to sleep. The woman had a bad feeling that something had happened and asked to go through his phone. She found several "disgusting" text messages with his friends and saw his inappropriate chats with his "girl best friend."

The ultimate loyalty test

Despite what Ong found, she still wanted to be with her ex-boyfriend. The man, on the other hand, was cold towards her and did not even show remorse for his infidelity. The woman sobbed, begged, and even apologized for confronting him the way she did, but he kicked her out of the house. However, a week later, the man decided to meet Ong. She was hopeful they would start fresh, but all her ex-boyfriend wanted was to break up with her. Surprisingly, the separation came with a condition. Ong was expected to remain loyal to the man, even after they'd separated, so he could see if her love was real. She was desperate at the time and said yes, but later, she finally came to her senses and realized her worth. 

Second chance syndrome

Letting go of someone you love can be difficult, which is why many people go back to their exes even after a breakup. A YouGov survey conducted in 2021 found that 44% of the respondents have gotten back with an ex after a breakup. Out of these, 21% reported doing it more than once, while 23% only got back with an ex once. Additionally, the survey revealed that Gen X (25%) were more likely to get back with an ex more than once, and Baby Boomers (59%) were most likely not to. While Ong and her boyfriend did not explicitly get back together, she was willing to go back to him even after he cheated on her.

'Ghosting was a red flag'

Ong is currently dating someone new, and many of her followers were shocked, thinking the story was about her current boyfriend. @hweylin commented, "Oh my God, I thought this was Keenan. I almost died." @edginarchive asked, "What did you see in him in the first place?"
