Boyfriend proposed during the marathon she trained 6 months for — her response is a lesson for all men

Sometimes, a person might not understand that they have done something upsetting until another person completely puts their foot down. A woman experienced something similar with her boyfriend, who proposed to her in the middle of a marathon she was running. She tried to explain what was wrong with his actions multiple times before she couldn't take it anymore. The woman, Louisa Melcher, who goes by @louisamelcher on Instagram, shared the events that led to her breakup with her boyfriend.

The woman's boyfriend proposed to her during the LA City Marathon, and she had to say no because she was on the clock. "I was trying to run a sub four-hour marathon and I've been training for this for six months," Melcher pointed out, "through injuries, through bad days, through everything." Her boyfriend had seen her go through that challenge. "So for him to come and propose to me at mile 14, to literally be on the course blocking me, no, that's not how we are gonna do that." The woman said no at that time and kept running. "What you guys don't see is all the things that actually led to us breaking up." She went on, "He calls me on the phone while I am running a marathon—who calls someone who is running a marathon?"

The woman revealed, "I obviously decline that and keep running. At mile 18, he's back." She continued, "He's clearly emotional, and he brought his parents this time." Melcher had to "talk him down" and tell him that she was not "saying no permanently." She added, "It just wasn't a good circumstance to propose." The woman kept running once the boyfriend was calm enough and ended up finishing at 4 hours, 1 minute and 36 seconds. "And now do I think I would have run the sub-four marathon if I hadn't stopped? I can't say. Obviously, you can't rewrite history." Regardless, the woman was very frustrated with what happened, and on top of that, the boyfriend still couldn't understand how she was feeling.

"He's like, you are so worried about these numbers. It's just a number, I am talking about spending our whole life together." The woman understood what she had to do next. "If we are not seeing eye to eye on this, we are not seeing eye to eye on our marriage, and I broke things off." Melcher shared that her boyfriend had never really been abusive but always put his needs and wants before hers. "When I first told him I was training for a marathon, he called me 'unfulfilled corporate millennial final boss,'" the caption read. "At the time, I thought it was funny, but now I think it was a subtle attempt to downplay my accomplishment before I’d even achieved it." People took to the comments section of the video to support the woman.
