Want to create some wholesome memories before starting long-distance dating with your partner? Take notes from this same-sex couple, Akash and Diego.
Long-distance relationships are never easy—weeks feel like months, and the physical absence of your partner can be overwhelming at times. But when you are in the right kind of relationship, the distance between you and your partner feels shorter. The enduring bond built on trust, communication, and a shared vision for the future makes even the toughest challenges seem more like temporary hurdles. Akash & Diego (@spiceandsangria), a same-sex couple, came up with an amazing way to cherish their memories in Toronto before they began their long-distance relationship.
As Diego prepared to leave for Sweden, the adorable couple left cute heart stickers all over the city so Akash could stumble upon reminders of their special moments together every time he walked the streets. The wholesome video captured Diego painting the town red with his love for his boyfriend, and the onscreen text read, "POV: He leaves heart stickers all over the city for me to keep seeing before starting long distance."
Initially, the heartfelt gesture made Akash burst into tears every time he came across the stickers on the streets. "But now I’ve finally started smiling whenever I see one randomly and enjoy my little flashbacks. It was the best idea ever! Like they say, everything reminds me of him," he wrote in the caption. The now-popular Instagram reel took social media by storm, amassing over 2 million viewers. While many people admired Akash and Diego for their efforts to keep the spark alive, the video also struck a chord with several long-distance couples who could relate to their journey.
For instance, @boohoo wrote, "Can I just say I’m imagining any one of these hearts getting painted over but you can still technically see the outline so that even if they try covering it up the love is still there and it makes me want to cry." Similarly, @chanteldahl commented, "This is so cute! I leave little sticky notes and tiny figurines hidden at my partner's house for him and the kids to find. It's my little way of saying hello when they find them all over." @burb wrote, "I am moving to a new house and my husband will walk to work which is so exciting for him. Now I know what to do! This is so beautiful and gorgeous I'll do something different but the idea is beautiful."
Meanwhile, @nishi wrote, "Please this is so cute! Before going into the long distance, my partner and I did something similar and you’ll see stickers all around High Park." @hades.warren commented, "Gonna start crying every time. I do it anyway when I see and remember areas we visited when they came to visit me. I took a picture of where we sat at a mall to eat some ice cream and if I think about it long enough I feel so sad."

Akash and Diego, who have been in a long-distance relationship for some time, recently shared how they celebrated two years together—despite the miles between them. Another beautiful video featured some of their core relationship memories together, while the caption read, "Even though we celebrate our 2-year anniversary apart, we’re grateful for every moment we’ve had together and can’t wait for what’s ahead. Here’s to love!"
