Every employee approaches a job with the hope of doing their best, but when they are taken for granted, they no longer sit back and take it. A user who goes by u/pimilpimil revealed that her toxic boss was on the lookout to make her work life hectic and overwhelming. He kept finding ways to set her up for failure and get a shot at humiliating and trying to fire her. Ultimately, he got a chance, but it came with a cost. In a post shared on January 14, the employee revealed how her sassy response backfired on the boss’s entire plot brilliantly, as her receipts unmasked the arrogant supervisor he was. The employee noted that the boss always had something against younger employees but had tried to "charm" his way into her good books. When she revealed that she had a boyfriend, the boss started a “hate campaign” against her.

Working as a retail manager, her main tasks included desk work and overseeing things. However, the boss hated the fact that she was not on her feet working. So he decided to add to her tasks and "unofficially" appointed her to conduct “quality control checks.” The retail manager knew the tasks (desk work and quality control) were both opposing, and that one would compromise the other. Following this conversation, when the employee focused on her desk work, she was yelled at. The man intended to keep her away from her desk job and prove her incompetent. So, to teach her boss a lesson, she did her desk work during breaks and showed her boss she was doing the quality check tasks during working hours. “I deliberately sent the schedules and proposals to him, and as expected, he did not read them,” she noted.

She knew this would cause issues. And right enough, the boss called a meeting with the higher-ups “to publicly humiliate” her. The man shrewdly claimed that the employee wasn’t doing her job and should be fired. To his surprise, things backfired quickly. “Unbeknownst to him, my emails had the owner, the director, and anyone important to the company CC'd on it; now it's his turn to be humiliated, not even reading the email, and now claiming I failed to do my job,” she revealed her mastermind plan. Eventually, she explained the scenario to the owner and director, and as the perfect conclusion, the boss was fired. “I got a raise, but I still left the company after a few months for a different opportunity,” the post revealed. According to Monster’s 2025 Mental Health in the Workplace survey, the mental health and well-being of employees in America is taking a toll more than ever. Out of 1,000 employees surveyed, 80% revealed they work in a toxic environment. 57% of workers think it’s better to quit than to put up with a job that is so frustrating. 54% blamed managers for being the reason behind their poor mental health, while 59% noted it’s the toxic work culture that makes things worse.

This employee knew better than to let her boss' arrogance quietly ruin her work life, and the internet loved it. u/gllimmerpuff noted, “You basically gave him enough rope to hang his own career by letting his ego ignore those CC'd emails.” u/RayEd29 remarked, “Good on you for dealing with a crap manager.”
