The employee was touched by their boss' gesture as they started working at the company only a year ago
Some employers create a supportive work environment, but few go the extra mile for their team. One Reddit user, u/SawWhetOwl, experienced an extraordinary act of kindness after injuring their leg and being unable to walk without crutches. Their boss and supervisor not only checked in on them but also dropped off groceries at their house. The heartwarming gesture, shared on Reddit, resonated with many online.
The employee, who works as a manufacturer in eastern Canada, explained, "I live alone and suffered an injury to my leg during a snowstorm, leaving me unable to walk without crutches. I have been trying all week to make it into work to no avail," they wrote. They couldn't make it to work due to the icy weather. "I started at this company a year ago after leaving a horrible work environment. Feels like I found the right people," the employee continued. They had included a screenshot of the texts shared between them and their boss. In a text, they had written, "Thank you, so sorry about all of this." The boss had replied, "Things happen. No biggie. We are all good over here. Just keep me in the loop."
The employee kept their boss updated, later texting, "Because of the storm today, I won't risk coming in but I will try for sure tomorrow if the roads and stuff are clear. Monday at the absolute latest." The boss thanked the employee for the update and told them to rest without worries. The boss also said, "Supervisor and I were just by at your place. We got most of the ice off your steps but the driveway is a lost cause. There are some groceries on your deck. Feel better." The employee was elated by the gesture and said, "Oh my god! Thank you so much. You guys didn't need to. I didn't even hear anything." The boss revealed that they might not have heard anything because of the whipping winds outside. "No worries. It's the least we could do," they added.
"Naw, that's above and beyond," the person pointed out. People took to the comments section of the post to appreciate the wholesome gesture by the boss and the supervisor. u/mycatwontstophowling wrote, "Broke my kneecap at a softball game where my company’s team was playing. It was the last game of the season, so a lot of people were there. They stayed with me until the ambulance came and when I came out of X-ray at the hospital, my supervisor was waiting. She took me home, and then the next day, she and another coworker went to pick up my car (still at the ball field) and brought it home. A few days later, when I had to see the surgeon and do all the pre-operation stuff, my supervisor took me to those visits. I was very lucky to have worked with some good people."
Another user commented, "I used to work for a pretty damn good company that was privately owned by 4 people. Each essentially ran a different department within the company. I once called in 'sick' and my boss (one of the owners) called me on his way home asking if I needed him to stop at the store to grab anything for me. I have never felt so guilty calling into work." u/Bethanys7 remarked, "You are clearly valued. Nice to hear you value them too. How lucky are you to have folks like that in your life!"
