Different people have different opinions about the modern world. While some are happy and feel society has grown substantially in things we once dreamt of, others are disappointed with the never-ending hustle culture. When an individual who goes by u/complete_fly_96 asked people on Reddit to list things they totally find BS in today's world, here's what they said:

1. Wedding drama

"Wedding drama. It doesn't matter. A wedding should be about celebrating 2 people getting married and 2 families coming together. People have totally forgotten the 2 families part and instead act like they get to be king and queen for a day; when you relax and don't take it so seriously, you have a better time." - u/mspooka

2. We live on subscriptions

"The fact that we don’t own anything anymore — it’s all a subscription. Former homeowner — I’m stuck renting. We rent our music from Spotify monthly. We rent our TV from Netflix monthly. Microsoft won’t sell you Office anymore. Even my goddamn printer requires a monthly subscription — and I haven’t even used it this year. The quality of everything made is reduced to save money and increase margins, so we don’t even get appliances and clothing, and cars that last anymore. It’s all a money-making scam." - u/jcw795

3. Generational tags

"Dividing people into generational tags and pretending there is a huge difference between the groups. There are more commonalities than differences, and those differences are usually temporary. It’s just a way to set people against each other and distract from economic differences." - u/buffysbangs

4. People relying on social media for news

"Politics, news, and information on social media. You should not rely on any social media source for any sort of information. It's simply far too unreliable and easily manipulated... It only pits one side against the other and fosters arguments. Actively filter news and politics from your social media feeds. Instead, rely on established information sources and don't overconsume. Pick a few sites you know you can trust, and rely on them. Assume if it's on social media, then you're likely being fed misinformation." - u/leadsponge420

5. 'Young' influencers

"Don’t ever trust influencers under 40 pitching you skincare products and/or their skin routine. They’re f******g young — that’s the main reason their skin looks so good! And those products are sent to them for free, and/or they’re flat-out paid to tell you that you can look like them if you buy that stuff. After youth, the most important factors for having great skin are not serums, red light masks, or ‘gua sha’ toning tools lol. They are 1) drinking enough water each day, 2) eating mostly clean and non-processed foods, and 3) wearing sunscreen. That’s it." - u/hyphen99

6. Fear of being judged

"Worrying about what other people think. Nobody is thinking about you. Nobody is reflecting on the awkward moment you had. Nobody cares. Everyone is only thinking about themselves." - u/dreamberglabs

7. People asking to travel that world in the 20's

"People give advice for people to travel as much as possible while in their 20s and not worry about their finances yet. Go on the same trip in your late 30s/early 40s instead, when you can afford a better experience and likely have a long-term partner to enjoy it with. Also, not getting your financial plans started until you're 30 is going to make the rest of your life much more difficult…" - u/chainsawguy72

8. Gender reveal parties

"Gender reveal parties. If you find out it'll be a boy, everyone will cheer, and if you find out it'll be a girl, everyone will cheer. And why would it matter anyway?" - u/blue_swirling_bunny

9. New music

"Saying music is good and I don’t like it just because I’m older. Some old music is sh*t. A whole bunch of new music is absolute shit and is just a producer manipulating the emotions of young people to keep them buying their product as they age. There are ways to do this responsibly and irresponsibly. It’s always done irresponsibly." - u/ok_bug_6470

10. Everything about modern life

"Almost all of modern life. Phones, p**n, video games, social media, drugs, and clickbait will consume full months and years. It’s never been easier to avoid pursuing a passion. Before you know it, it’s all over. I’m grateful that I came of age when there weren’t so many distractions hardwired into our daily lives. If there’s anything I can advise younger people to do, please find a passion or hobby and let it consume you. Dopamine hits and doom scrolling are the siren song that will destroy all the things that actually make life worth living." - u/costlydugout

11. Tipping culture

"Tip culture. I don’t mind tipping a server at a restaurant well for exceptional service. I am not tipping the person at Taco Bell for putting my order in a bag that I carry to a table and then clean up myself when I’m done." - u/johnboy11a

12. Expectation to figure out life early

"The fact that you have to have your entire life mapped out and completely set up for college by the time you're out of high school at 18. Colleges will take your money at any age. There's nothing wrong with taking a few years to figure out life. It's your life; that means the only timeline you have is your own." - u/reptilesblade

13. The corporate ladder

"Moving up the corporate ladder. I bought into this for way too long. I've tried management and am much happier being an individual contributor. Also, I like my job well enough, but I get my deep satisfaction from my hobbies and family. I'm content with my job being a means to make money and not my life purpose." - u/mysadsadtears

14. Too consumed with 'looks'

"Being self-conscious about your appearance. I spent the entirety of my life from ages 11 to 35ish absolutely hating my appearance — I thought I was fat and ugly and had no confidence whatsoever. I look back at pictures of myself in my 20s now and just want to grab that girl by the shoulders and be like, 'You are gorgeous, are you insane?' I try to keep this in mind as I’m looking down the barrel of 40 and starting to experience the joys of 'visible signs of aging.' Remember, you will never be as young as you are right now; when you look back in 10 years, you’ll be stunned at how good you looked today, no matter how much your brain wants to pick and criticize every flaw!" - u/sagittalslice

15. Chasing materialistic things

"Gaining material things to make you feel good about yourself. We throw away so much trash and junk. We fill our houses with junk, and when we run out of room, we get a bigger place or a storage locker. We save money to purchase junk. You don't remember all the junk, but you remember experiences. Also, social media is 100% BS designed for screen time; it's such a huge time suck..." - u/happy_kale888

While these truth bombs may be bitter, they are golden life advice from those who have climbed the same mountains as you. This passing down of knowledge through generations is what strengthens a community, and we hope it does the same for us.
