Gen Z and Millennials often find it difficult to be around boomers because of their abrasiveness, such as being dismissive of modern issues, resistant to change, or sometimes using a harsh tone to make their point. Additionally, many boomers do not like hearing jokes about the error of their ways. Bringing comic relief to the seriousness of this conversation, a grandma made fun of herself without any sense of shame and is winning hearts online. Shannon Nelson, who goes by @pinkynel on TikTok, suggested through a skit that only a handful of lucky pals could hang out with her, provided they obliged by her instructions.

The 68-year-old tried to redefine the meaning of a boomer grandmother in her now-popular video. Nelson began with the need to be called by a new and cute name by her grandkids. “I'm a boomer grandma, and I'm going to come up with a cute name for my grandkids to call me,” she was heard saying. Furthermore, the content creator mentioned some examples as well, like “Gigi,” “Mimsy,” or “Glamour Gang Gang.”

Moreover, the footage transitioned to Nelson holding a golf kit. At this point, the sports enthusiast in her witty style told parents if they wanted their kids to hang out with her, they’d better play golf. Reiterating her “boomer grandma” catchphrase, the grandmother went on to talk about the touchy subject for many parents, that is their kids being fat. While raising her concern about rising obesity, Nelson hilariously brought the conversation back to the guardians. “I worry about you getting too fat too,” she said, taking potshots at herself too: “But mostly, I worry about me getting too fat. Nobody wants a fat gang gang.”

“I'm a boomer grandma, so I have plenty of advice to offer. For example, why not let that baby cry a little? It's a great exercise for them,” Nelson shoots again. The grandma further claimed that she had no hesitation in posting the pictures of her grandkids on Facebook despite not being present in them for obvious reasons. “Because I wasn't invited, and my friends don't know that,” she added.

The grandma then refuses to change any diapers because she's been there and done that. “I'm a boomer grandma. I'll offer to babysit, but I'm really hoping you (the parent) don't take me up on it. If you do, it has to be at my house, and the kids must be healthy,” joked Nelson, adding a caveat that the guardian of the kid needs to be back at home by 8:30 p.m. max. The one-minute-twenty-eight-second monologue ends with the grandma showering love on her 1.1 million viewers but calling it her time, sparking reactions on social media.

Bringing her unique take, @heykristyxo wrote, “I’m a boomer grandma; I won’t see my grandchild for months at a time because it’s your job to bring them to me.” Adding to it, @optimistic_prime said, “I'm a boomer grandma, and I believe that 'it takes a village to raise a child'—as long as it’s not when I have things to do.” “You remind me of my mother. And that’s not a compliment,” @jdpaschal commented.
