Gone are the days when any of us could drop by the movie theaters anytime and anywhere. Because of rising ticket prices and high inflation rates, watching movies has become more eventful and requires a lot of head-scratching for many. But this isn’t the case for one boomer dad. When a businesswoman—who goes by @hungrygirlworldwide on TikTok—turned to her father for his take on the film-viewing experience these days, his response was hilariously thought-provoking.

In a widely circulating video, the “unhinged” family content creator asked her dad how much he’d like to pay her to watch a movie. Her father’s satirical reaction has struck a chord on social media, with many people finding it extremely amusing. Yet, others blame him for not living with the times and having been left behind in life. “If I was going to the movies, how much money would you give me?” the content creator asked her father, who was sitting across the table. Their conversation took an interesting turn when the boomer dad went back to his times, forgetting about the skyrocketing movie ticket prices.

“Um, you know, probably for you, if it’s on Tuesday, ‘cause it’s two-for-Tuesday,” the confident-looking dad said, hinting at the prices. Under the circumstances, the dad told his daughter, “You could probably get a deal for like 5 bucks.” The unfiltered yet satirical response, which irked many online to point out the widening generation gap, also amused the video creator for once. Her follow-up question was, “What about popcorn?” Her dad replied, saying: “I would say with popcorn, it probably adds another 3. So, all in, about $8.” Additionally, at one point during the 22-second clip, the boomer did acknowledge that watching movies had become an “expensive” affair.

This witty conversation is part of the video creator’s typical avatar to provoke her dad to come up with such unusual yet deeply meaningful responses. The footage, aimed to highlight the rapidly changing cost of things, has managed to draw widespread attention, including 677.5K views. Furthermore, the father-daughter duo’s banter also brought into notice what once used to be an affordable, spontaneous movie night has now become a costly outing. In the comments section, “And $8 was considered ‘expensive’ for him? Boomer math be like…” @oregonlady1979 remarked.

@bycourtneyjay added, “I was expecting him to say $30ish dollars, which is still on the low end. But $5?!” “Has he even left the house in this century?”  @niaisnexxxxt jokingly asked. “For $8, you're heading to the living room to watch a VHS tape from the '90s and popping popcorn on the stove—not even microwave popcorn!” @lalonda8 pointed out. “8 dollars cover the taxes,” @basicallyidotok highlighted. “I need to see the reveal when you told him the real amount,” @stephyoungmc demanded. “My movie theater is a $7.50 ticket, $4.50 popcorn, and $3.50 drink. It’s cheap where I live,” @soleil.eternelle shared, agreeing with the video creator’s dad's POV.
