The deaf and blind dog could sense that her owner was back just by her smell and people on the internet are loving the pet's reaction.
Our pets can sense when we are around them just by smelling. This is no pseudo-science as it is backed by research and seen in a recent video that went viral on TikTok. One deaf and blind dog could sense that her owner is back just by her smell. The video was uploaded by @rachelhmarie and it has garnered more than 1.6 million views. The text overlay of the video reads, "Reuniting with my deaf and blind senior dog after 2 months apart."
In the video, we see the dog lying on the cushion and looking up as she sees someone enter the room. As the camera goes near the dog and a hand is seen close to her nose, the canine is seen going close to the owner and barking and jumping as she sees her.
The owner continues to pet her dog gently. This is not a surprise that the dog was able to recognize the woman in the video. As per the Phoenix Vet Center, dogs "possess up to 300 million olfactory receptors in their noses, compared to about six million in us. And the part of a dog's brain that is devoted to analyzing smells is about 40 times greater than ours." As per VCA animal hospitals, "The dog’s sense of smell is so adept that a blind dog has much less difficulty adjusting to the loss of vision than a human does."
Thus, it is no surprise that this dog was able to recognize her owner. People on TikTok also appreciated how wholesome and loving this video is, with 350,000 likes. @birdie_145 commented, "OMG she thought you had left her forever because she couldn't smell you." @aaroneastman3 wrote, "They said, 'Never leave this home again…also, hey you!'" @lolambiee shared, "Dogs barking like that melts my heart. That baby missed you." @irabidkao expressed, "'Mom, you're alive, I was worried. Where did you go? How could you?' I love it." @darksights wrote, "Poor baby she was so happy she knew by smell sweetheart." @user2082479107087 mentioned, "Awe...she can hardly believe that you're back. I love this she's so happy she needs big hugs and loves."
@tcbmom7 even suggested, "Not sure if you already do this but next time leave a blanket/shirt with your scent on it." @bigolsouthernmess shared, "Oh! Dear Lord in Heaven! When that baby started crying-the raw emotion in the wails-my heart shattered and rejoiced at the same time!!" People were truly touched by the dog's emotions for her owner and they suggested how she can make the dog feel safer next time she has to leave. They also shared how much they loved the dog and the owner in the video. It is truly wholesome and adorable.
