Moments later, two other men joined the motorcyclist to calm the teary-eyed woman

Trigger Warning: This article contains themes of self-harm that some readers may find distressing.
Life is not perfect. For most people, it isn’t a linear graph where everything goes smoothly. It’s a treacherous roller coaster muddled with grief, loss, and heartbreak. Many people are unable to face this reality, which manifests as negative thoughts. A middle-aged woman was contemplating suicide just when the attention of a kind stranger fell upon her, and he rushed to lend an arm of support. In an April 9 Instagram video shared by Good News Movement (@goodnews_movement), the man can be seen stopping his motorbike to prevent the woman from engaging in self-harm.
The short video opens with a shot of a busy highway in Brazil, where this motorcyclist is driving along. The camera pans to the left side of the road as the biker notices something that feels wrong. A teary-eyed woman with a purse strapped across her shoulder is hunched down over the ledge of a bridge, as if thinking about jumping over it. “Are you okay?” he asks, to which she turns around and tries to walk away. The biker remains persistent and grabs her arm to stop her.

She shrugs away to loosen the arm and starts plodding away, softly brushing the ledge with her hand. He doesn’t give up. Instead, he walks up to her, presses her shoulder, and again asks, “Are you okay?” She hesitates and attempts to break free. In the meantime, he extends his hand to other vehicles and pedestrians passing by, signaling for them to join him in helping the women feel safe. All the while, he’s telling her to “calm down.” Moments later, a man can be seen hopping around from the other side of the road. “She was about to jump,” the biker tells him. Another man comes around. Together, they console and embrace her as she bursts into tears, letting out the emotions welling up inside her.

Millions of viewers were left touched by the stranger’s kind gesture and teary-eyed at the state of the woman. Many started a discussion on suicidal thoughts and what unfathomable pain the woman must be feeling that she chose to take this step. According to the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, suicide is one of the leading causes of death in the United States.
Nearly 12.8 million adults seriously thought about suicide in 2023, nearly 3.7 million planned suicide, and 1.5 million attempted suicide. In 2023, over 49,000 people died by suicide, with one death reported every 11 minutes. The suicide rates among males were approximately four times higher than those among females.

“The world is a freaking mess, and we need to help each other,” commented @dfwtshirts. @carolyn7365 remarked, “I hope she realizes how much she matters in this world...even to strangers.” Thanks to this vigilant stranger, the hero, who didn’t just save one woman, but also millions of hearts. We need more of these men in the world.
