Third-wheeling his GF & her ex
His girlfriend's family was hosting a big dinner, so she invited the author to meet up. The couple drove 5 hours, only so he could spend time getting to know her family and relatives. However, the author didn't know that his girlfriend's ex was also invited. "Apparently he's still really close with the family, and nobody thought that was worth mentioning to me beforehand, lol," he said. At first, the man tried to brush it off, but his girlfriend's mom kept bringing up the past. She kept sharing stories from when the two were together. In fact, his girlfriend and her ex kept chatting here and there throughout the night, and it made him extremely uncomfortable. But the last straw was when "the two of them disappeared outside together for like 20 or 30 mins."
The last straw
The author felt he had the right to ask his girlfriend where she went with her ex-boyfriend. But when he did, "she immediately got defensive. Said I was embarrassing her in front of her family and acting insecure." The confrontation turned into a bad argument, and she asked him to leave the house if he was going to ruin everyone's night with his bad mood. Pissed, the man packed his bags and left to stay at a hotel room. "She's been calling and texting me nonstop since I left, but I haven't returned any of her calls or texts," he added in his post.
An awkward ex encounter
People have different types of relationships with their exes and their current partners. Some may be okay with their partners being friends with their exes, while others consider it a red flag. Similarly, 55% were okay with their partners being on speaking terms with their exes. However, 40% were honest and said they would be uncomfortable if their partner were friends with their exes. The author had no choice or say in his situation. In fact, he was blindsided when he got to the house and was forced to watch his girlfriend the entire night being chummy with her ex-boyfriend. It made him so uncomfortable he had to leave.
