'She kept telling me she loved me, but I was blinded by hurt...' he said

No matter how hard someone tries to bury the truth, digital footprints often bring it back to life. A 20-year-old man (u/jsccre) spotted a deleted clip of another guy wrapping his arms around his 21-year-old girlfriend after a clubbing weekend during Labor Day. When he confronted her, she shrugged it off, saying she was only modelling for her friend's boyfriend's clothing brand. The man wanted to trust his girlfriend, but the growing disconnect between them made things even more suspicious. The situation escalated when he checked her Apple Watch and uncovered deleted messages with a mysterious man. The post, shared on September 23, 2026, has received 10,000 upvotes on Reddit.
Found these messages on my gf Apple Watch but they're deleted on her iPhone.

The ordeal started on Labor Day when the man's girlfriend spent a couple of nights clubbing with her friends. When she returned, an unusual quietness replaced her typical outgoing nature. He tried to discuss her weekend, but each attempt ended in silence. "She didn’t really want to talk about it, so I just laid off it," the man recounted. However, things changed when she gave him her phone and went to the bathroom.

Curious, the man checked her deleted messages and found something extremely unusual. "The deleted messages were cleared out, which is weird since she usually doesn’t do that," he explained. Suspicious, he checked the deleted photos/videos folder and found a video of her dancing with a stranger whose arms were wrapped around her. When the man confronted his girlfriend, she claimed she was modelling for her friend's boyfriend's clothing brand. "There were photos that proved that, so I let it go," he explained. However, as days passed, the man grew distant from his girlfriend.
Once, the man heard that one of his friends caught his girlfriend cheating by checking her Apple Watch. "When you delete messages off your iPhone, the Apple Watch keeps the ones received and just deletes any sent," he explained. So, once, when his girlfriend forgot her Apple Watch at his apartment, the man decided to go through it. "I found these messages that go back to that Sunday and had one of my friends see who this was," he noted.

The messages included ones where the other person was alerting the woman that they had left and even asking what she was doing. However, neither he nor his friend could find out who this person was or whether they knew him. Cutting to the chase, he decided to ask his girlfriend, who refused to delete any texts. When he showed her the text, she denied knowing the mystery man. "She kept telling me she loved me, but I was blinded by hurt because I wasn’t getting any true answer," the man added.
The author couldn't be sure whether his girlfriend cheated on him or not. However, a Talker Research survey (of 2,000 Americans) found that 36% of respondents consider deleting or hiding messages from a partner also as unfaithful. Meanwhile, another 37% of people consider masking a person's name as someone else to be an act of infidelity. Additionally, 41% of Americans also noted that sending flirtatious texts is cheating.

Meanwhile, people in the comments also agreed with the survey. For example, u/Bolt_McHardsteel commented, "There is only one reason why she would double-delete texts and lie about it, OP. You are a young guy; set a policy to never put up with this and stick to it. You will have a better life if you do. Dump and block her, and move on. Good luck." u/EggplantSeeds suggested, "Innocent people generally don't delete messages that would prove their innocence. Your intuition is right on this, OP. I'm sorry. Dump her ass and move on."
