Being in a committed relationship means looking out for one another and supporting each other during difficult times, especially when it comes to safety. A woman who goes by u/secretkey2124 on Reddit shared how her ex-boyfriend left her standing outside their house at midnight. In fact, he then questioned her for asking a neighbor for help at 12:40 am, while accusing her of being "childish" and involving outsiders. The post, shared on June 28, has received over 3,000 upvotes.

Proof, please?

It all began when the ex-boyfriend dropped the author at her mom's house and went to meet his friends. As discussed, he was supposed to return early so he could spend some time with his girlfriend and her mom. However, that did not go as planned. In fact, he hadn't returned until 10 at night. The author's mom had to lock her door and sleep, so she called her boyfriend to ask if he was on his way to pick her up. But the man asked her to book a cab to their home and said that he had already left his friends and was on his way. The author reached home and realized that her boyfriend was 44 minutes away.

Now, since he had already lost a pair of keys, she had to wait outside their home until the man arrived. The couple lived in a "rough" neighborhood, and she did not feel safe being alone at night. Furious, the author called him, but he found the situation hilarious and laughed at her. He even asked her to send a photo as "proof" that she was actually standing outside their house.

Neighbors to the rescue

Sick of his games, the author knocked on a neighbor's door and asked if she could climb their garden fence to get to her house. Luckily, the neighbor agreed, and she entered her house. After reaching inside, she packed all of her boyfriend's belongings in bags. Finally, the man arrived home at 2 a.m., and instead of apologizing, he got upset.

The accusation

The man called the author childish, possessive, and dramatic for texting and calling him several times. He even had the nerve to say, "It’s not like I was cheating; I was just with my friends," after leaving her outside at night for almost three hours. The boyfriend cared more about what the neighbors would think and was upset that she asked one of them for help. Pissed, the author finally broke up with the man.

The fear is real

A survey (of 1,500 U.S. women) conducted by Talker on behalf of LogicMark Inc. revealed that one of women's primary fears was walking alone at night (67%). Additionally, 32% reported being in unsafe situations and felt that they had no one to contact. The fear for safety is so real that 70% always shared their whereabouts with friends and family, and 50% shared their location through their phones. The data suggest that women, even today, don't feel safe being alone in public places. Considering the reality, it's astonishing that the boyfriend in the Reddit post didn't see anything wrong with leaving his girlfriend stranded at night.

Meanwhile, the netizens were on the author's side. u/ChipSouthern9771 wrote, "NOR. Throw away this whole trifling man. In a way, good that you found out he doesn't give a sh*t about your safety, comfort, or plans before it was an actual emergency? Imagine if you were having a medical emergency and he was like, 'Send pics, please!' This guy is stupid, selfish, unreliable, and a liar. Thank you, next!" u/Difficult_Prior6332 added, "NOR. You did a great job standing up for yourself. This guy isn't a partner you can trust and tackle life with."
