But for Hailey (@totallynothailey07), she was met with something else entirely. Just days before moving from Texas to Colorado, she noticed her boyfriend, Grant, spending over an hour at her best friend Kenzie's house, insisting he was "moving bed frames." She brushed this off at first, only for her entire life to change once she arrived in Colorado. After being dumped by Grant, she quickly realized the truth behind the situation. She took to TikTok on August 31, 2026, to vent her frustration. Her video has garnered over one million views so far.

Red flags in Texas

There had already been signs that Grant and Kenzie were getting unusually close. For instance, while Hailey was at work one day, a mutual friend walked into her apartment and found the pair lounging alone together on the couch. Still, Hailey didn't think much of it because she trusted both of them.

The Colorado ambush

The illusion shattered instantly the day she reached Colorado. Only 24 hours after co-signing a joint apartment lease, Grant decided to break up with her, simply stating she "wasn't his person" and their "souls didn't align." Naturally, this left Hailey in a tough spot, trapped with the ex-partner she still loved. So, she turned to her Kenzie for help. "Help me find a therapist," she pleaded with her, the same person who was by her side after her father's demise. However, instead of offering comfort, Kenize feigned sympathy to her face while being with Grant. 

This ultimately led to Hailey being suspicious of her, especially since the pair talked behind closed doors. However, it turned into certainty when she walked home one day and saw both of them in a compromising position. While Kenzie claimed she was merely passed out asleep and entirely oblivious to his presence, the pattern repeated days later. That was that for Hailey, who demanded some basic decency, pointing out that "you can't make the same mistake twice." Still, both of them deflected, insisting her concerns were baseless. 

A calculated confession

The deceit finally cracked when Hailey demanded Grant discard his ego and acknowledge the truth. Cornered, he confessed that only he held feelings for Knezie, but that the two had already shared an intimate conversation and the feelings were mutual. Even more chilling was the fact that they wanted to keep their relationship under wraps for the next 10 months. That is because they wanted to financially exploit Hailey due to the lease. To compound this, Grant even admitted that they had engaged in physical intimacy, an act he carried out with both women on the same day. 

Faced with the staggering reality that her two favorite people treated her like a financial placeholder, Hailey refused to live under the same roof with them. She immediately severed the ties and dropped the lease. She even resigned from her job, abandoned her coursework, and drove alone on the highway with no particular plan in mind. 

Cohabitating: Good or bad

If anything, this entire incident highlights the broader hurdles in cohabitation. According to a Pew Research survey, only 41% of cohabitationists believe their relationship is going smoothly. In contrast, 58% of married adults say the same. Still, 59% of adults across America have lived with at least one partner without marriage. 

Perhaps for the best
