'Dinners don't pay the bills'

Gabby Masseran (@gabriellamasseran), a bartender in Denver, got offended after a customer secretly tried to ask her out by offering dinner and a tip. She was reviewing the receipts when she came across one from a customer who had been staring at her for four hours while pretending to talk to the security guard. On his receipt was the note according to which he had invited her out in exchange for tipping her a dinner. She immediately refused the offer and instead made peace with accepting a $2 tip from the customer. Her September 23, 2025, TikTok video has amassed over 5.9 million views.

This is not acceptable

“Here’s what we’re not going to do: come in here and stalk me and then write, ‘I’d rather tip you a dinner,'” Masseran said, reading the note the customer had left on his receipt. She insisted on taking the $2 tip on the beer he purchased at the bar rather than accepting the dinner in exchange for hooking up with him. “I’d much rather have $2 to go towards my Starbucks,” she said. Masseran recalled that the man also ordered a Shirley Temple and pretended to converse with the security guard while staring at her for four hours.

Female servers suffer the most

Masseran’s experience is not an isolated case. According to a recent survey by One Fair Wage, 70% of women who work as servers or bartenders say they’ve been harassed at their workplace, including by customers. Moreover, a 2021 restaurant-worker survey cited by the National Employment Law Project found 76% of tipped workers said they had experienced and felt compelled to tolerate se*ual harassment, compared with 52% of non-tipped workers.

It's a no-brainer

Most viewers were enraged by how the customer treated the female bartender and applauded her for raising her voice. @sugar.c6h12o6 commented, “That’s so creepy! You're at work, working. Why can't people just leave you alone?" @nikkicxcx shared a similar incident: “I was a delivery driver for nearly 4 years and constantly got dudes not tipping, then trying to text me later for a date or whatever.”
