'I bet you probably saved his life without even knowing it.'
It's not every day that we see police officers celebrating strangers' birthdays. But once, when the Boston police answered a call from someone asking to wish him "Happy birthday," they just couldn't say no. Well, that someone was Chris, a lonely man with autism who had no one to celebrate his special milestone with. So, he decided to call 911, asking them to wish him instead. Shared on May 6, 2024, on New Bedford Guide, the video will break and heal your heart all at once.
Now, what began as an innocent request from a 25-year-old turned into something more heartwarming when police officers Israel Bracho and Franklin Ortiz arrived at his residence, giving him a wholesome birthday surprise. "We didn’t believe it at first. We kind of thought it was a joke. So, once we verified it actually was his birthday, we said, 'Well, everyone has one birthday. Everyone deserves to feel special on that one day'" Bracho was quoted by the KGNS News. When Chris opened the door, initially, he seemed confused, looking at the gentleman outside his home. While he was still standing at the doorstep, trying to register what was happening, the officers asked if it was his birthday for real and if they could hop in to celebrate it with him.
Notably, the kind officers had gotten a sweet little cupcake as a birthday present for Chris. "On our way there, we decided you can’t show up at someone’s house empty-handed. My mother raised me right. She would have killed me if I didn’t," Bracho revealed. As they entered Chris' residence around 12:40 a.m., they lit up candles on the cake and sang him a birthday song, making it a truly special moment. One look at the young man, and you'll know how much he has longed for a good time. Now, according to Behavioral Intervention For Autism, people like Chris often struggle in perceiving emotions and connecting with people. But, again, such incidents prove that kindness can help people with autism thrive and learn to express their true emotions while creating meaningful bonds.
Meanwhile, echoing the sentiments of the beautiful video, Jessica Maziarz commented, "Ugh, my heart, great job! Everyone deserves to feel loved and cared for! Great job, guys! That’s the true meaning of a cop." Echoing the sentiments, Debbe Boutin said, "That was above and beyond the call of duty, it was a special day for all three, you all went your way, and it was a special day, one you'll always remember. Kudos to you guys for making his special day!" Courtney McAlpine pointed out, "The smile on his face when they started singing!"
Steph L Resendes shared, "Hey, man, some people just need a pick me up! He’s clearly alone and needed some human support and kindness, and that’s exactly what he got! I see nothing wrong with it!" Evie Newton Rques wrote on Facebook, "Bless you guys and thank you for caring and making this young man's Birthday for him." Ann Gauthier commented, "I bet you probably saved his life without even knowing it."
