Lucy found out that the stranger was actually the new major general

Some people believe that name-dropping can get them everything, but that is not how the world works. A woman who goes by u/aquietborderline shared an incident that happened years ago with her friend, Lucy, while she was working as a server. Well, Lucy lived in a town with a huge army base, and on one busy night, she encountered an entitled army wife who tried to use her husband's rank to get a military discount. However, what she did not know was that someone who could destroy her husband's career was watching her very closely.
During one busy night, a woman Lucy had never seen before entered to dine in her section. The regular customers were patient, tipped well, and even complimented the servers and the owner. The woman, on the other hand, complained about the wait time from the moment she sat down. She even returned her pasta three times, saying it wasn't cooked right, and when it was time to pay, she asked for the military discount. Lucy politely asked her to show her ID, since the rule said only people with a military ID would be given the discount. Enraged, the army wife screamed, "Don't you know who I am? My husband is Kyle [redacted]! He's a 2nd Lt. at the army base, and he knows people!" Lucy tried to remain calm and respectful, but the woman went overboard with her yelling.

Meanwhile, the restaurant's owner and an older woman, whom the author referred to as 'Belle,' came over to diffuse the situation. Belle tapped the entitled woman on the shoulder and calmly said, "You're going to apologize to this young lady, pay in full, and leave a generous tip." Pissed, the woman questioned Belle for her intervention, and to this, the older woman replied, "Someone who can make things very difficult for your husband."

The woman then grabbed her purse, pushed the owner out of the way so hard that he fell, and left. When Kyle came to apologize a few days later, Lucy found out that Belle was actually the new major general. She had spoken to Kyle earlier and told him his wife's behavior would make it extremely difficult for him to progress in his line of work. From then on, the wife never entered the restaurant, but Belle and her husband dined in every Friday and left Lucy generous tips.
Military spouses (according to Military Money) receive several benefits, including health insurance, life insurance, scholarships and education loans, employment benefits, and much more. Additionally, they are also given military discounts. However, ID is often required to avail them. These discounts can range from 10% to 30%, depending on the stores or restaurants. In some places, the discounts can be applied to the entire family or just the service member. Lucy's workplace had dealt with misuse of the military discount before and started a rule that ID had to be shown. Instead of respecting the restaurant's rules, the wife went in the opposite direction and ended up embarrassing herself and her husband.

Meanwhile, people appreciated Belle in the comment section for standing up to the woman, apologizing, and even compensating for a meal that was not hers. For instance, u/Oni-oji pointed out, "A second lieutenant is the lowest officer rank. Their job is to listen to their senior NCO and do exactly what they are told." u/Raitoumightou also wrote, "I have no idea why people think it's ok to play rank (and technically not even their own but their spouse's) and get away with it."
