Mom and daughter were cornered by armed robbers in their driveway — her split-second move sent them fleeing on foot

In the quiet suburb of Alberton, South Africa, a typical grocery run turned into a fight for survival within seconds for a native woman. According to News24, it all went down when several armed men jumped out of their car and leveled their guns at a woman's window, expecting an easy target, as she tried to enter her house. Although many might've frozen at that very moment, this woman just refused to be a victim.

In a clip of this very incident, the woman is seen turning her white SUV into a multiple-ton weapon. "I was ready to open the boot to my car when I saw the white car behind us," she told News24. "I told my daughter, 'Don't get out, just close your door.' When I saw the men approaching us, and I saw their guns, I told her, 'Here comes trouble.'" With the guns pointed at her and her daughter, the woman acted quickly, pressing the panic button and waiting for help.

However, that wasn't going to cut it with the armed men aimed at her face. So, she decided to take matters into her own hands, putting her car in reverse and ramming it into the robbers' vehicle parked right at her gate. "I thought if I could only ram them past the gate, we could close it behind us," she later revealed. While she was successful in doing so, she didn't stop there, and rammed the car several times until she forced the armed men down the street to flee, leaving behind their car.

While this act of bravery has earned the woman widespread praise from people around the world, she remains as humble as ever, saying she's no hero. Nonetheless, as it turns out, things could've been even more difficult for her because if it weren't for a change of plans, she also would've had her nine-month-old grandson in the car. Thankfully, he wasn't in the car, and her daughter only sustained minor bruises. 

Meanwhile, the woman had to be helped out of the car, as she was numb. According to the police, the five suspects were apprehended in Pretoria just two days later, en route to committing a similar robbery. Nonetheless, while the suspects of this robbery were caught in almost no time, this remains a massive problem for Alberton. The minister of police, Senzo Mchunu, recently released the fourth quarter crime statistics covering three months (January to March, 2025). And 'robbery with aggravating circumstances' ranked first, with 490 cases opened, as per the Alberton Record.

The video was reshared by TimesLIVE Video, and the people couldn't get enough of the heroic stunt. "The fact that she then started chasing them shows the mental strength of a common person. When you scare a normal person too much, he/she then stop getting afraid and gets the strength to fight back," @zerotoinfinite2006 wrote. "Smart and brave. A rare quality these days. Beware those who suggest you give up and not fight in situations like this," @c.k.185 commented.
