People often get excited whenever they are about to welcome a baby into their family. They make special arrangements to ensure a smooth transition for the little one and the parents. Sometimes, in the process, some relatives overzealously start making decisions concerning the newborn. A young couple expecting their first child found themselves in a similar situation when their family members began dropping baby name suggestions. The wife—who goes by u/Extension-Judge-2906 on Reddit—opened up about forming a quirky plan with her husband to prank their family members. In the post, the soon-to-be mother stated that they reached a point where leaking fake baby names was the only choice they had left.

“(Am I wrong) for leaking fake baby names to family?” the wife asked. She added that it was a lighthearted attempt to annoy some of her relatives. The couple, expecting their first child, came up with the bizarre idea to “have some fun with annoying family members” who wanted to name their child for them.

“The issues started a week after we announced the news, and some relatives on either side began suggesting names,” she explained. The family members who tried to impose their baby name suggestions included the woman’s mother-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, aunt, uncle, and her two sisters.

“(The family members) decided we’d name a daughter Elizabeth or Cassandra, and we’d name a son William or Patrick,” the woman added. The couple objected to the fact that their relatives were deciding the baby’s name on their behalf.

“We told our families we weren’t taking name suggestions and to stop acting like they could tell us what to name our kid,” she explained further.

Their plea fell on deaf ears, as the family members were keener to name the child than the parents were. “We were told the names mentioned were good, solid names and that they would prevent any weird, tragic names that people these days choose,” the post read.

The woman said that to tackle the overwhelming situation, her husband came up with a hilarious idea. The couple started leaking baby names that they eventually wouldn’t use.

“This meant commenting on random Facebook posts with a name and acting like we were going to use it, or photoshopping images with baby items that had other names on them—stuff like that,” she explained. As part of the plan, her partner picked some funny names mostly used on social media, particularly TikTok. For instance, they claimed to have dropped names like “Cuntley,” “Dicky,” and “Sprite.”

The couple’s plan ruffled feathers among family members who were not ready to accept their choice of names. But then another relative said: “Why would they waste money on stuff with the name if the parents change it a week later?” That’s when the relatives realized.

“They were like, ‘Why would you do it?’ and we told them they were annoying us and we were just having fun since they were so insistent on the names. They said it was childish. My husband pointed out that they were the ones who childishly believed they could name our child for us,” the woman concluded, inviting reactions on her post.

“This is peak petty and I respect it. The fact that they got so invested in your baby's name that they fell for ‘Cuntley’ is sending me,” u/Tellamya remarked. “That's so freaking funny. Twins Cuntley and Taintley,” u/Bleacherblonde added to the humor.
