When Anderson Cooper asked, 'How hard can a toddler bed be?' Andy Cohen responded: 'Oh, you are messing with your life!'
One might think the first year with a young child would be the most difficult for parents, but that's not true. They have to go through several years of transitions with their kids, be it from liquid to solid foods or from cribs to toddler beds. Andy Cohen, 54, is someone who knows that too well. Recently, he tried warning his friend and fellow dad Anderson Cooper about the nightmare that is the bed transition. Cohen has two children, Benjamin, 4, and Lucy, 1, whereas, Cooper has Wyatt, 3, and Sebastian, 1, reports Scary Mommy.
During an interview on CBS Sunday Morning, the two friends were talking about fatherhood when Cohen asked Cooper, “Has Wyatt moved to a toddler bed yet?” He responded, “No. What is your obsession with toddler beds?”
“Well, uh-huh, call me when Wyatt moves to a toddler bed. It is hell,” replied Cohen. Cooper was quick to respond, “How hard can a toddler bed be?” With a laugh, his friend enlightened him: "Oh, you are messing with your life! Basically, what we're all doing... is keeping our children in a cage, which is the crib, okay? No, I mean, they can't get out… But the toddler bed is a nightmare because they now have free will. And they are coming to you at all hours. All of the rules? No more. The lines are blurred. And the power shifts. Young Benjamin holds the keys to the castle.”
The video was shared on Instagram with the caption: “The media mogul behind ‘Watch What Happens Live’ and a plethora of 'Housewives,' @bravoandy, is now shining a spotlight on his own life-changing role, as the father of two young children. Cohen talks with good friend @andersoncooper about the joys (and challenges) of raising children.”
Many parents in the comment section could relate to what Cohen shared. @yarnobsessed said, “My son kept me up for eight months solid after we put him in a toddler bed. Not my husband, ME. He is 21 now and I’m STILL bitter.” @mbrown1025 wrote, “He is 100% right. Mine slept through the night, like 12 hours. Took the sides off the cribs and all hell broke loose for years! Ha.” @foxyforty commented, “Ep! The worst thing I ever did was take my daughter out of her crib.” @realtorvic shared, “Get some door safety locks that lock from the top of the door ;) we set his room up so amazingly when he wakes up he hangs out playing in his room until we come for him.”
Cohen’s stories about being a parent have been going viral for keeping it real. In one of the stories, he says, “My apologies if you were in the West Village on Hudson Street this morning and saw me absolutely lose my mind. Ben was upset that he was wearing shorts and wanted to change. He won, he won, he won. We went back up and changed.” He added that he told his son that it is going to “be hot later—I explained, it's gonna be 80 today, but he won, and we move on. Very frustrating start to the day. It's been [a] very frustrating day so far.”
