Have you ever wondered what the kids wished for in the 1970's? Here is the answer and it is both wholesome and hilarious.
If you ask kids today what they would buy if they were rich, their answers would range from PlayStations, electronic gadgets, toys and everything new and fancy. But, have you ever wondered what youngsters wanted a few decades ago? Recently, a BBC video of kids from 1979 being asked, "What would you buy if you were rich?" went viral on Reddit after u/LiteratureOk5964 uploaded it on the subreddit r/mademesmile. The answers of the little ones ranged from adorable to hilarious and is definitely worth a watch.
For this reason, the video has almost 17K upvotes and several comments on it. The video starts one kid answering, "Cabbages, lettuce and carrots" when asked what they would buy if they had a lot of money. "I would buy a platinum ball that big and very expensive and I would earn some money till a billion pounds," said another boy. Then the smiling boy is asked, "What would you do with this golden ball?"
He replies, "I'd put it on the display cabinet and clean it when it gets dirty." Another kid had a fun answer of her own, saying that she would "buy a water pistol." One kid was also asked how much money or pounds she thought one needs to be rich. The kid is seen giving it some serious thought before answering sweetly and confidently: "Fourteen." At this time, a laughter track is played in the video. But, if you are thinking all kids have materialistic answers to the questions of being rich, then you are mistaken.
There is also a philosopher among these kids. When asked what is it like to be really rich, this kid answered: "Horrid, I'd rather be poor than rich. Because if you are rich, you have got so much money that you don't know what to do with it. And you are lazy because you have got so many servants and a big car. And it's better to walk than go in cars." The interviewer comments that the child makes it sound miserable to be rich.
The kid replies, "It is." Then, the kid was asked, "What would you do if someone suddenly gave you 100 euros?" The kid had a witty reply to this, stating: "Give it back."
Redditors had interesting comments to add to this. u/just_sayi said, "My nieces are 6 and 12. Unprompted, the youngest recently told me that if she had all the money in the world, she would open up a store where everything was free. It opened my eyes to how much their parents probably stress about money in front of them." u/sgenesis wrote, "When my son was about 5 years old, we were having a conversation about the lottery. It was December and I asked him what he would buy if he won the lottery, he thought about it and said 'Hmm, I would buy my own tinsel and decorations so I can have them in my bedroom.' I went out the next day and bought a whole bunch of Christmas decorations and a mini tree for his room." u/author_p17 expressed, "Horrid to be rich! That’s what I believe too." What an interesting video that gives us insight into the minds of kids!
