She highlighted differences in design, products and layout, leaving viewers surprised by the contrast.
Visiting another country can bring unexpected culture shock—not just from the people or their customs but even from familiar places like Walmart. American TikToker Ashley (@ashleytravels715) experienced this firsthand during a visit to a Canadian Walmart. "Kind of creeped out. I am in a Walmart in Canada, and everything is like in a different font," Ashley joked in a video while exploring the store’s aisles.
Ashley quickly noticed unfamiliar product names on the shelves, many of which were written in French. "What is Pattes D'ours?" she asked, pointing her camera at boxes of paw-shaped cookies featuring a cartoon bear. Ashley also questioned the labels and descriptions displayed on the shelves. "What is a multi-save? Licensed items? What is this clearance sale? Those are illegal in America," she remarked, gesturing toward packs of Kinder Surprise Maxi. "The vibes are just weird in here. The craziest part is the outside of the store which is even weirder looking."
Ashley began filming outside the Canadian Walmart, showcasing a large glowing Walmart banner with "supercentre" written beneath it. She wondered why the price tags and displays inside were predominantly red. The candy section added to her confusion, featuring brands and flavors of chocolates and candies not typically found in American Walmarts. After giving her viewers a glimpse of the Canadian store, many were curious about what Walmarts in the U.S. looked like. In response, Ashley shared a second video, this time from a Walmart in South Florida.
Unlike the Canadian Walmart, the American one had more of a warehouse vibe. "First of all, black and white signs. We don't do your red and yellow motif," Ashley commented, focusing her camera on the price tags and shelf signs, which were notably different from the bold colors in the Canadian store. She also highlighted the clothing section, saying, "And our clothes section is actually pretty legit. We do have some fun styles but the signs are just different. It's in a different font. Don't make fun of me for saying different font. I know it's not French."

Ashley also pointed out the different packaging of Kinder Joys, which are legally sold in the United States. She joked about the massive size of American Walmarts, saying they’re so huge they might as well have their own zip code. Unlike the Canadian stores, the American Walmart featured a lot more blue throughout its design. In the end, Ashley declared American Walmarts better than their Canadian counterparts. Viewers in the comments were stunned by the stark differences between the two, with many sharing their own observations and surprises.
@love.louise.xoxo shared, "American Walmart feels like a grey warehouse. The floors are dark, the ceilings are dark and the lighting is dim. I guess it’s what you're used to. Now Target, that’s my type of store." @caitrionasullivan joked, "Ok but American Walmart always gives dystopian vibes. At least we're allowed Kinder Eggs." @mandasaysthings commented, "Canadian here and have been to the States multiple times, totally agree your Walmarts are better. But it’s so weird that you can buy pew pews there. Otherwise, American Walmarts just have a better selection of everything else! Ours feel so bare in comparison and it’s boring!" @reversc0wgirl added, "Nope that’s just French, because we have two official languages. Hope this helps!"
