The adoption process can rarely be considered easy. From navigating legal systems to enduring long wait times, it thrives on persistence, emotional resilience, and often, a deep sense of purpose. Despite these challenges, many families around the world choose to adopt not out of necessity, but out of compassion. One such family is that of Kristen and Tim Fischer, an American couple living in India, who recently shared their emotional adoption journey online — bringing home a two-year-old named Nisha. The moment was captured in a heartwarming Instagram video posted by Kristen at @kristenfischer3, where Nisha is seen meeting her three sisters for the first time.

The video shared by Kristen Fischer on Instagram showed Nisha being introduced to her three new sisters, who rush to welcome her with love and excitement. Kristen penned the caption, “She spent her entire life in an orphanage and hardly knew anything outside those four walls. But she had no idea that she had a mom and dad and 3 sisters who love her tremendously.” She continued, “This was only the first day with Nisha, with many more to come. It is a beautiful memory of unbelievable joy to have her come home for the first time.”

The Fischer couple applied for adoption in October 2023, and a year later, in September 2024, a match was made, and by 2025, everything was finalized. Their entire process took 14-17 months, and the story has been shared by Kristen Fischer on her Instagram. However, the complete adoption process in India takes about 42 months, which is three times longer than that of the Fischer family. “So here it is. We had our home study 5 months after applying. Then we got approved by CARA (Central Adoption Resource Authority) to adopt 6 months after that. Then, once we were approved, things went quicker. We accepted her file within a week, visited her a few days later, and after 2 more months, received government approval for us to adopt Nisha. We took her into our home and had her in pre-adoptive foster care for 3 months before we got a court date. Then, after the adoption was finalized, she was officially and legally ours! Our entire process was 17 months from start to finish. Of course, it was long and hard, but she was completely worth it, and we couldn't be happier with this sweet little girl in our lives," Kristen explained in the caption.

In another video shared by Tim, he offered some insights into the facts behind their quick progress in adopting their baby girl. He explained the complete adoption process in India, "There are around 35,000 prospective adoptive parents listed in India’s Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA), and around 2400 children are eligible for adoption. Of that, 943 are registered as 'normal,' and 40 of them are under the two-year-old category. This is where the huge waiting list comes in, as most people want to adopt a child in that category." He also pointed out that picking a child from a special category helped them get Nisha sooner and also clarified the questions around adopting another girl despite having three of their own, “The reason why we adopted Nisha is to give the child like her a loving home. Every single child deserves a home, and we can give it to our Nisha, who otherwise could have been overlooked her entire life!”

The family’s story resonated with the audience, especially the meet-cute between Nisha and her youngest sister, Sophia. Viewers noticed how they both seemed to be the same age and flooded the comment section asking Kristen about the age difference between them. @regional_rassam commented, “Beautiful. Your youngest daughter and Nisha look almost the same age... or Nisha is the youngest?” @kristenfischer3 replied, “They are only 3 months apart in age! Sophia is younger than Nisha.” @1dragon2tiger commented, "Great to see, and your little one has taken a shine to her. I bet they will love playing together and getting into mischief. You have a lovely family, and god bless."

"Big sissy is MELLLLLLTINGGGGG MY HEART look at her. They’re all so loving and precious and ready to love her. I hope they’re best friends till the end of time! Sweet sisters," said @blksunshine907. "If this ain’t what love is, then I don’t know what else to say! You saved a life and are now giving her warmth and love. You can tell that the baby has suffered from the lack of emotions on her face," @nita_msh shared.
