Public figures often clap back at inconsiderate comments online, and Adam Pearson (@Adam_Pearson) wasn’t about to let ableist trolls slide. The British actor, best known for his role in the 2024 dark comedy "A Different Man," became the target of a cruel comment on X, formerly Twitter. Rather than ignoring it, he called out the ableism directly. The controversy began when @FlopHive, a now-deleted account, shared a BAFTA Awards seating plan showing Pearson next to singer Camila Cabello. "This is genuinely so scary. I would not attend the event if I were Camila," they wrote, according to DailyDot.

The remark targeted Pearson’s appearance, which is affected by Neurofibromatosis Type 1, a genetic disorder that causes skin and bone abnormalities, per the outlet. Pearson wasn’t having it. He fired back, saying, "Luckily for everyone, you’re not Camila and—most importantly—weren’t invited. So from me, Adam Pearson, directly to you @FlopHive — take your nonsense opinions elsewhere as I have EXACTLY zero time for your anonymous, ableist nonsense." His response quickly gained traction, with many users rallying behind him. The backlash was swift, leading @FlopHive to delete their tweet. But it didn’t end there—feeling overwhelmed, they later claimed Pearson had weaponized his platform against them.

In a follow-up post, the user wrote, "I made an insensitive joke and deleted the tweet when it had less than 200 likes. I addressed you and apologized. I deleted the tweet before you had even made a post about it. You took that tweet and turned something that was already deleted, into thousands of people harassing me and sending me death threats and news articles made about me. I took my accountability, now it’s your turn. As a celebrity, especially one with a disability, you already know you’re bound to get comments. Does that make them OK? No. But using your platform to send people to harass everyone who makes a comment about you isn’t either." Their deleted tweet was shared by Sara (@stateoftay16).

The fallout sparked debate, with some arguing that Pearson had unfairly exposed the user. However, many sided with the actor, pointing out the hypocrisy in the follow-up tweet. Even after the original post was deleted, it was reshared on Reddit by u/stars_doulikedem, where users overwhelmingly supported Pearson. u/Comfortable-Load-904 wrote, "Good on him for sticking up for himself and calling them out, that was very disrespectful and hurtful. Some people are vile, unhappy humans and they are hellbent on sharing their misery with the world."

u/Traditional_Maybe_80 said, "That person justifying the plain meanness of that original tweet is just????" u/stevendailey commented, "Hey, if you can dish it out you better be able to take it." u/adultdolllover pointed out, "'You’re famous and disabled, therefore, you should be used to ableist comments' is...certainly a take!"

Even after deleting his response, Pearson wasn’t done shutting down ableist remarks. Another now-suspended user mocked Pearson and actor Warwick Davis, captioning their side-by-side images with, "Is the circus in town?" Pearson clapped back immediately, writing on X, “Has no one learned anything? So, to clarify @fartsniffer0614, this was the 2025 BAFTA Film Awards. I find it somewhat ironic that you have ‘spreading kindness’ in your name whilst punching down two successful actors simply for being disabled. Take your ableism elsewhere."
