'No kid should be embarrassed because they lack knowledge.'
Encouragement and patience from adults can work wonders for a kid's self-esteem. A teacher offered that to one of her students when the child thought that the homework was hard. She admitted that it was a regular practice in her class, and her kids received appreciation for just turning in their work and sharing their struggles with her. The teacher explained her entire process through a post on X, where she goes by @yafavoriteaunty, and the internet unanimously agreed that she is doing great work.
In the paper, the student had written, "Division is hard," in one segment, and the woman responded, "I will help you!" In the caption, she explained, "One of my babies didn’t do his homework. No kid should be embarrassed because they lack knowledge." The teacher added, "So I tell them to write me notes and I write back. No outbursts, no displays." She shared that the kid got credit for simply turning in the work and for telling her that he was struggling with something. The woman had ticked the question and had written 2/10 on top, which created some confusion for people in the comments section of the thread.

To clarify the misunderstanding, the teacher commented, "There seems to be some confusion here, lol. So I’ll clear it up. The check mark is his grade, nothing more or less." She went on, "The 2/10 you see is today's date, lol. I do that on every paper, so I know when I graded it." In another comment, she expressed, "Be prepared to see updates about my babies and their progress." A study conducted by the Department of Education from Dar-Ul-Madina International University and ALHAMD Islamic University in Islamabad, Pakistan, found a high correlation between the development of a child's self-esteem and positive reinforcement plus constructive feedback from teachers. It was conducted with 300 students and 120 teachers to understand the impact of teaching strategies on students' self-esteem.
Many people shared their own experiences and appreciated the teacher's methods in the comments section of the thread. @SweetAdelaideJ wrote, "I skipped a lot of school one year (high school), finally showed up to class one day. We had to write a book report that day. I did not read the book, so I wrote an essay on how I skipped too much & was having a hard year. My teacher gave me half marks and offered to give me a separate project to make up for it. Kindness and compassion go a long way." @_dimplehobi commented, "This is wonderful! I hated it when my teachers would call out certain students. I feel like that’s a violation of their privacy. I could never do that to my students."
You're doing God's work ma'am!

@immasters remarked, "Just communicating with students like that is amazing. Better than being judgmental and confrontational towards a student who is having a hard time for whatever reason." @cosmyra64 shared, "I remember my 7th grade math teacher reprimanding the class for making fun of me being slow to solve a problem on the board. She said, 'She's slow because she's being thorough, she knows what she's doing.' Raised my confidence so much!" @FamedChris expressed, "You’re a great teacher. Having a teacher help you understand and learn the material instead of just moving on to follow a curriculum helps dramatically."
