A Guatemalan man overheard a server struggling with a Spanish phone call and stepped in to help, bringing some much-needed relief and a smile.
Sometimes, the universe works in the strangest ways to support dedicated and honest professionals. None of us are skilled enough to handle every challenging task at work, and there's nothing wrong with not knowing everything. But a helping hand can make all the difference. That’s exactly what happened when a restaurant server struggled to communicate with a customer due to a language barrier. A man from Guatemala named Daniel, who was standing nearby, noticed the struggle and, eager to help, offered his assistance. Daniel’s girlfriend, who runs a TikTok handle for her partner under @myguatemalanboyfr, was also present there. She recorded the heartwarming moment as he graciously stepped in to lend his free service to the woman.
The video showed the server doing her best to speak Spanish. However, she was not able to understand the customer’s request over the phone. Daniel walked up to the counter and offered her help. As he patiently listened to the customer’s order, his girlfriend made some humorous remarks. “Hire him,” she told the server, causing her to giggle at the intriguing suggestion. All the server could do was smile back as the heartfelt interaction unfolded at the restaurant. “Daniel to the rescue,” read the description of the video, lauding the boyfriend’s sweet gesture amid the awkward situation.
Daniel was seen trying to sort things out by understanding the customer’s needs. “He wants extra salsa,” he told the server. Upon hearing this, the server seemed relieved, finally understanding the customer’s specific request for their meal. “My Guatemalan boyfriend saw that the Wings-top lady was struggling to speak Spanish to the customer on the phone, so he offered help,” the text overlay on the 10-second video read. Meanwhile, the adorable video garnered nearly 3 million views and 293k likes on the platform.
Among the countless reactions it received, @ok.shae emphasized, “She got so excited when she finally understood he wanted extra salsa.” Sharing a similar incident, @veronicagonzalez6860 recalled, “The time my daughter called me from the UPS store where she was working to speak to her customer.” “My mom once had to take the headset at Popeyes because the workers were asking everyone if they knew the language, but not a single worker spoke it. We had just checked out, so my mom was like, 'Let me try,’” @hoshimi.ka added.
“I had a Spanish boss, so when I was struggling to understand a customer, I sent my boss to speak to them, and the customer was pissed off at me,” @greenpooh jokingly wrote. “Back when I worked food service, I was always so relieved when I had my multilingual coworkers on shift with me. It’s so much more relaxing for everyone,” @onyxofthenight echoed similar sentiments. @kateschindler shared, "I have had regulars do the same for me several times (I'm a bartender). They always get a free drink out of it." @samgreat98 chimed in, "It does give me hope when people do this! I have people do it for me all the time."
