A Japanese TV show once followed a dog for a week to solve a cute mystery bugging the entire village

Ever noticed your dog getting mysteriously chubbier and wondered why? Well, that's exactly what happened to a dog owner in Japan, and she just couldn't figure out why! Desperate for answers, Hamada Keiko-san reached out to Knight Scoop, a Japanese reality show, asking them to spy on her puppy, Sacchan, for a day. What they discovered was both downright hilarious and shocking. This incredibly funny story was shared on the official Instagram page of A History of Dogs' (@ahistoryofdogs) in five different parts. 

Sacchan, a former stray, became part of Hamada's family thanks to their electrician, who found him during the house construction. "Sacchan has become curiously fat, although my weight hasn’t changed. But I wonder where he goes every day to get that fat. So I would like to find out where he goes in the day. Just what does he get up to? Please find out!" Hamada wrote in a letter to the show. Determined to uncover the truth, Hyota Echizenya, a comedian, was sent to Shirahama, a small town near Osaka, to investigate. When Hyota arrived at Hamada's residence, he was warmly greeted by the family's other two dogs, Yocchan and Icchan. But the moment he laid eyes on Sacchan, he knew this dog was special. "He is easy to spot. He is a bit chubby!" he said. 

After a brief interaction with the neighbors, Hyota realized that Sacchan was no ordinary pup—he was a local celebrity! Almost everyone knew him, and he even had a favorite neighborhood lady he visited just for a bath. As the real investigation began, Hyota started following Sacchan, tracking his every move. Before long, Sacchan arrived at Chibi’s house—his furry friend—where he was treated to some dog food. Curious, Hyota continued trailing Sacchan, leading him to a local shop where the dog was a familiar sight. But the investigation didn’t stop there. Another store turned out to be one of Sacchan’s favorite hangouts, where he was regularly treated to Pocky sticks. The biggest surprise, however, awaited at the station—once again, the dog was caught in the act, being fed by several generous passersby. Watching the never-ending feast unfold, Hyota couldn’t help but exclaim, "Sacchan eats too much!"

In the fifth part of the video series, Hyota phoned Sacchan's owners and asked them to pick him up from the station since the stubborn pup refused to move from his spot. Finally, the big day arrived, and Hyota was ready to reveal the results of his investigation. "So, we solved the riddle of why he was so fat in the end. He simply eats too much! People see a cute dog and give him treats, it seems. And it's a continuous cycle of new people and treats, so he gets fat," he revealed in front of the hosts. When the panel asked Hyota if he would have been concerned about Sacchan's health as his owner, he playfully said, "Although Sacchan can run. It's more of a grinding motion, though. It's a bit of a tornado cyclone!"

The full episode of Knight Scoop, featuring Sacchan, was uploaded on Chuckledtv's (@chuckledtv197) YouTube channel. Meanwhile, reacting to the video, @bro0bot commented, "The amount of serotonin that this segment has provided me is immeasurable."
