The mother chose "Sky" as the baby's middle name in honor of the unique circumstances of her birth.
During a Frontier Airlines flight from Denver to Orlando, a pregnant passenger went into "early and unexpected labor." Thankfully, a flight attendant rushed to the rescue by assisting the mother with the delivery. The "exemplary" airline employee, Diana Giraldo, remained calm throughout the situation, as described by Captain Chris Nye. The whole crew also helped during the delivery as the captain coordinated the diversion to Pensacola Airport in Florida. In a Facebook post, Frontier Airlines applauded the crew's initiative and dozens of Facebook users praised the team as well as Giraldo in particular for her "heroic" act, PEOPLE Magazine reports.
"'Exemplary' and 'calm' were the words Captain Chris Nye used for flight attendant Diana Giraldo’s heroic task of delivering a baby recently mid-flight," the Facebook post reads. "The baby could not wait, so the early and unexpected labor took place on a flight from Denver International Airport to Orlando International Airport. Diana helped the mother to the back lavatory and assisted the mother in giving birth." The flight attendant provided the passenger and her newborn with the care they needed until the flight landed at Florida's Pensacola Airport. There, both the mother and healthy child were met by trained paramedics.
Captain Nye shared in a statement, "Diana again went above and beyond after the completion of the flight to coordinate our return to Orlando. The whole crew really did a great job. I transferred controls and flying duties to my First Officer as I coordinated the diversion. Dispatch did a great job as well by suggesting Pensacola Airport and getting a gate and paramedics ready for us. This was a job well done, and I was happy to see everyone working together to successfully deliver a newborn on an aircraft!" Indeed, the whole airline crew did everything they could to make sure the passenger and her child were safe.
As a sweet gesture and in honor of the unique circumstances of her child's birth, the mother chose "Sky" as the newborn's middle name. In the comments section, Facebook users appreciated the Frontier Airlines flight for their show of initiative. "Great job, to the whole crew, but especially Diana!" One individual commented, "I always enjoy flying with you!" Another added, "Great job, kudos to the flight attendant! What a great story! The baby sure looks awfully at ease not realizing what a stir she caused. She even appears to have a slight smile like, 'Haha, didn’t I surprise everybody!' She will definitely have an unusual birth story to tell. God bless all involved and glad everything ended on a positive note." To see the original Facebook post, you can click here.
