The 98-year-old veteran star opened up about aging and much more while looking back at his illustrious career in Coldplay's music video.
Dick Van Dyke's Hollywood career started several decades ago, and it has been glorious so far. The 98-year-old actor recently starred in Coldplay's music video, sharing a meaningful message for people. In the director's cut of the "All My Love" music video, Van Dyke laughs, sings with frontman Chris Martin, and even showcases his dance moves. The video also features him collaborating with Martin on a song about aging.
The "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" actor shared his poignant thoughts about aging, family and love in the extended cut of the music video. The 7-minute-long clip also included snippets of the actor's career. "I'm acutely aware that I could go any day now but I don't know why, it doesn't concern me. I'm not afraid of it," Van Dyke said. "I have that feeling, totally against anything intellectual I have, that I'm going to be alright. It certainly is a feeling of caring about the welfare and the life of the other person as much as you care for yourself." He also reflected on a photo of himself with his first wife, Margie Willet, and their children.
"This photo is of us in our first home when we moved to California. There's Carrie Beth, who was born there, Chris is the oldest, and there's Barry and Stacy. What is love? Boy, they've been attacking that question for centuries, I don't know," Van Dyke said, smiling. He also shared a deeply personal memory, revealing that he often dreams of his late daughter Stacy during moments of sadness or loneliness. "Stacy comes to comfort me," he said, speaking of his daughter, who passed away nearly a decade ago. In another segment of the video, Van Dyke was asked to close his eyes and think about the people who have profoundly impacted his life.
"I'm too old for this. I'll pass out and go to sleep. I'll take a nap," Van Dyke joked. The Coldplay video was filmed at Van Dyke's home in Malibu, and a shorter version of the music video is due for release on December 13, 2024, to honor the legendary actor on his 99th birthday, reports Indy100. "I think I'm one of those lucky people who got to do for a living, to do what I would've done anyway. When you think how lucky I am, I got to do what I do, play and act silly," he shared about his career. Van Dyke started his career in the late 1950s as a radio DJ in Illinois, according to the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
He teamed up with Phil Erickson to form a comedy duo that came to be known as "Eric and Van - The Merry Mutes." Van Dyke started his career on television with WDSU-TV New Orleans Channel 6 as a single comedian and went on to host a comedy program. He starred in the situation comedy "The Dick Van Dyke Show" from 1961 to 1966, in which he portrayed a comedy writer named Rob Petrie. Over a career spanning seven decades, Van Dyke earned numerous accolades, including Primetime and Daytime Emmy Awards, a Grammy for the "Mary Poppins" soundtrack, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He was also inducted into the Television Hall of Fame.
