The HR coordinator pulled Greenwald aside, saying, 'You have to hear what Teddy did.'

Danee Greenwald (@danee.in.the.city on TikTok), a mama of three, just couldn't stop laughing when a staff member from her son Teddy's school pulled her aside and informed her about what he had done. She was told her six-year-old son refused to wash his hands because he thought he was "too handsome." Greenwald later confronted Teddy, whose confidence just broke the Internet.
Greenwald went to pick up her son from his school, and as she entered, the HR coordinator pulled her aside, saying, "You have to hear what Teddy did." The mama was confused at first, but couldn't control her laughter when he told her the hilarious story. Greenwald told PEOPLE that while she wasn't surprised by the incident, she didn't expect Teddy to be so confident in his answers. "He was very proud of himself. I honestly have no idea where he gets that from. He just has a big personality and really stands by whatever he thinks is funny," she explained. Later, the mom confronted her son, asking if there was any truth to what she heard. "Teddy, did you tell somebody today that you didn't need to wash your hands because you're too handsome?" she asked, and he responded with his ever-so-charming confidence, "Yes, I'm too handsome."
@danee.in.the.city Thanks a lot Teddy. 🫠 Also, why did we bring this up weeks later. What are you doing to me kid?

Greenwald, however, wanted to know the real reason behind Teddy's refusal to wash his hands. Upon further discussion, she realized her son had a hand sanitizer, so he didn't think he needed to wash his hands. "But really, he just thought it was funny and wanted to make his teacher laugh. He loves being a comedian and getting a reaction," the mom explained. It wasn't the first time the little boy had stunned people with his confidence; in fact, his parents often joke that he will make a good lawyer because of his great negotiation skills. "My husband and I always joke that he can negotiate his way out of anything and might be a lawyer one day, like his dad. He's extremely charming and very mature for a 6-year-old, and he's always ready to present his case. Sometimes, honestly, his case will even make a lot of sense," Greenwald confessed.

It's natural to be surprised by a six-year-old who's just so mature and confident for his age, but a lot of it comes from how his parents raised him. For instance, research found that "authoritative parenting" fosters self-esteem in kids. The study was conducted with 255 medical students, who were asked to complete an online questionnaire. Based on their answers, the researchers looked at three parenting styles: 1. Authoritative parenting (loving parents who also set rules), 2. Authoritarian parenting (strict and controlling parents), and 3. Permissive parents (parents who are loving and don't set many rules). In the end, they found 60% of students had authoritative parents, 29% had authoritarian parents, and only 11% had permissive parents. Most importantly, they observed that students with authoritative parents had higher self-esteem, while those with authoritarian parents showed lower self-esteem.

Meanwhile, reacting to the TikTok reel, @hannah.mae.virginia commented, "Teddy knows his worth, and no one is going to tell him otherwise (germs included)." Similarly, @simoncc919 wrote, "After all my years teaching littles, I thought I had heard it all, but they still surprise me." Similarly, @zclcbc shared, "I once had a kid tell me he ate his boogers so that the germs would go away."
