The little girl and her family had no hopes of finding the lost toy but fate had something else planned for them.
Finding your lost belongings while traveling is hard as it is. Moreover, it can even be harder to see something like a teddy bear that can not be easily tracked and can get mixed up. But in a surprising turn of events, a five-year-old girl received her favorite teddy bear back after losing it 4000 miles away from her home in Darlington, England, at Disney Land, Florida, as reported by Darlington and Stockton Times. Leilani Hatton, the little girl, always took her teddy bear, Jofli, whose name means "journey of life" wherever she went, including travels.
Hatton's grandmother, Lynne Cullen, shared that the plushie came with an online journal where the child could write about her travels and adventures with the toy. "We took it to Disney with us when we went to Florida. She carried it everywhere with her. She was collecting all the Disney Princesses' signatures, we've got photographs of her with this bear and all the Disney princesses," the Cullen added. "One day, we got back to the hotel and thought, 'Where's the bear?' We thought that her parents had it, and they thought we had it. We didn't get together to realize it had been gone for a day or so." The bear was there in all the photos she clicked with each princess, so the family got to the task of figuring out where it could be.
The family narrowed down the possible places to either Epcot or a Magic Kingdom resort. But unfortunately, the family had to go back without Jofli. The girl's grandma told Fox News they put in a lost property claim for the stuffed bear but didn't think it would lead them anywhere. "We got an email a couple of weeks later saying [Jofli] had been found, and he arrived in the post a few days later," she revealed. The family was overjoyed that Jofli was sent on a transatlantic flight back to their address, free of cost.
"We never thought in a million years that we'd get it back. It's still a mystery how or where he was found," the woman admitted to Coastal Breeze News. Fortunately, the package arrived two weeks later with compliments from Disney to cheer up the family, especially the little girl. Hatton even wrote a thank you letter to Mickey Mouse for finding Jofli and returning him. The letter read, "Dear Mickey, thank you for finding Jofli, love Lani." "We just couldn't believe it - we thought there was no chance of seeing Jofli again. We surprised her and let her open the parcel, saying that Mickey Mouse found it for her. The teddy has always been important to her," the delighted Grandma pointed out.
"Those parks are massive and there must be a lot of lost property, so it was a really lovely touch for them to go out of their way and make sure he returned home. Jofli has certainly had an adventure of his own and he's ready for his next one after returning from America," Cullen remarked. "They are made locally to us in York and I bought it for her a few years ago. They are quite special so we were all disappointed to lose him. I just thought it was really heartwarming they had decided to post him back this far -completely free of charge," the woman said, expressing her gratitude.
