Those who faced an uphill battle in their youth know how significant and fulfilling simple achievements are in their lives.
The definition of luxury varies from person to person. For many, living in a mansion and owning private jets may be a luxury. But for others, having a comfortable abode rigged with essential equipment seems like a luxury. So, when one makes even a simple achievement they dreamed of when they were young, it becomes a huge deal and a core memory in their lives. Kevin Lee, an entrepreneur—who goes by @kevinleeme on X (previously Twitter)—shared about his childhood dream of buying one of those fridges with ice dispensers on the platform.
"Now, I finally have one and I feel so lucky every time I get ice for my water. It's a simple pleasure and it helps me realize I don't need much to be happy," Lee posted. He then asked people, "What's your dumb 'made it' dream that you finally accomplished?" and the comments that poured in were absolutely wholesome. Here are 25 little achievements that made people feel like they made it.
Such an awesome, specific example. Mine was to be able to order appetizers at a restaurant

My dumb dream was to have a Car that was ALL ONE COLOR.

We were dirt poor and drove a ‘91 dodge caravan that was blue but one of the doors fell off so we got a RED passenger door.
So embarrassed to show up to Highschool with that.
I was proud to get my first Chevy - all blue!
Having a speaker in every room in the house.

I LOVE music, and have always wanted good speakers wherever I go in the house.
Although I don’t yet have a multi-room audio system, I now have a mix of speakers throughout the house, in addition to a bunch of headphones.

Just buying the food I want.
For me my goal was to be able to get the check in a restaurant
— TCB (@THORmaximalist) January 13, 2024
My parents never ever ate in restaurants, they had other financial priorities
In my early 20s I had a few older friends that brought me to places I couldn’t afford and always took the check
Today it’s my turn
A garage. I wasn't aware of this for years. I just took shoveling the car for granted. My heart leaps a little every time I drive out onto the frozen wastes of NY in a warm car without a trace of snow on the roof.

Honestly, having central air and heat is something I appreciate every day. My house is cozy and I love it! When I was a kid we had a freezing house in winter heated mainly with a wood stove - and we had no A/C!

The first Christmas I had my own kids, I bought the shiny, metallic wrapping paper instead of plain Christmas paper. Growing up I always wanted the shiny paper, but Mom said it was too expensive.

It was just unreasonable to think my family would ever be able to buy something like that
Years later I’m sending this post 🙏🏼
As a kid, I would select the least expensive option on the menu, even if I didn’t like it or it wasn’t filling, because I was always worried about how much my parents were spending. Now, I’m exploring options & discovering what I like based on my taste as opposed to the price
