A Texas restaurant has become a beloved cultural icon by offering much more than just good food. El Arroyo, fondly known as "the Last Queso Stop Before a Bunch of Yoga Studios" according to its website, has been serving up delicious Tex-Mex fare and plenty of laughs for over 25 years. Its legendary marquee sign, featuring witty messages, has become a daily dose of humor for fans far and wide. The tradition, which began in the early '80s, continues to thrive, with fans from around the world submitting their best one-liners in hopes of seeing them on the iconic sign.

Laura Schulte, the brand partnerships and social media manager at El Arroyo, shared with Bored Panda that the marquee was originally placed out by the street by the restaurant's founder more than 25 years ago to promote specials and share funny quotes. Today, the staff selects messages based on "what makes us laugh and is most applicable to current events," Schulte explained. The signs have become a sensation, amassing over 639,000 followers on Instagram and drawing customers from across the country—and even the globe.

The most popular signs, according to Schulte, are usually the ones that are "relatable and funny to large groups of people. We've seen a lot of success with our signs about past elections, and current events such as commentary on the pandemic."
