Most accidental calls end with a quick apology, but 17-year-old Elijah Sierocki's call ended with several police officers on his front porch. The teenager from Kentucky accidentally called 911 while playing Rainbow Six Siege and was unaware he was connected to emergency dispatchers. He was talking to his friends on voice chat, but one sentence alarmed the dispatcher, prompting officers to search his house, Newsradio 95 WXTK reported. A clip of the call was shared on Law&Crime Network on January 14, 2025, and the video received 109,503 views, 1,800 likes, and 305 comments.

In-game chat

Sierocki was alone at home, playing Rainbow Six Siege with his friends, when he butt-dialled 911. He told his friends, "I ki**ed two people," referring to the people in the video game, but the dispatcher mistook the comment. Two minutes after Sierocki announced that he ki**ed two people, several police officers pulled up outside his house. Sierocki only realized there were cops outside when his dog started barking, his friend @warzincgg revealed in a now-deleted post.

'Visibly shaking'

The police officers thought they were attending a "double hom**ide" case and treated Sierocki like a threat. They asked him if everyone was okay in the house, and he revealed he was all by himself. In an interview with Law&Order, Sierocki revealed he voluntarily went outside when he saw the officers with his hands up.

He recalled spotting an officer with a gun pointed toward him as he approached and said he was “visibly shaking so hard.” When officers continued questioning him, Sierocki offered to call his mother, adding that she had been checking the family’s Ring camera and confirmed that “it was an accident.”

That confirmation helped clear up the misunderstanding, although officers still checked the house to make sure nobody had been hurt. Once they realized what had happened, the mood changed considerably. “They sat me down and they talked to me about Rainbow Six stuff,” he recalled.

Sierocki also made clear that he did not fault the officers for taking the call seriously. “They handled the procedure very, very professionally,” he said. Before leaving, officers apologized for frightening him and told him to contact them if he needed anything. Sierocki also shared that after the whole incident was over, he and his mom laughed about it.

Butt dials

In 2015, the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management saw an increase in annual 911 calls. They wanted to know the reason behind it, so Google conducted a survey and found that 30% of the 911 calls from cell phones were "butt dials" rather than actual emergency calls. The report also revealed that the accidental calls caused major strain on the dispatchers since every single one had to be investigated.

People found the situation hilarious, but also commended the police officers for de-escalating the situation. A few Rainbow Six Siege gamers understood Sierocki's position. @allaboutNDIRISH commented, "Thankfully it seems that even headed cops responded and de-escalated the situation once diagnosing the lack of a threat." @raymondgalvan9659 wrote, "Rainbow Six Siege had me raging a couple times couldn't imagine what mine would sound like."
